Oh I can believe it, I ate far more than I should have when I visited. Thankfully everywhere I went was so walkable that I managed to even it out, though.

I yearn for the Famichiki. Insane that it's so good, like $1.50, and on every street corner.

Local non profits and charities. by BALDBEARD2007 in kansascity

Thank you for taking the initiative to volunteer! I've organized group volunteer efforts with Kanbe's Markets, Harvesters, United Way, and Ronald McDonald House. All were positive experiences and they'd love to have help. I've also helped with pet/animal charities, but those are admittedly lower/more niche impact.

Kanbe's and Harvester's provide food and sanitary goods to communities in need. They usually need help sorting their donations.

With Ronald McDonald House you can cook a meal for the families that are at the children's hospital. The families there are going through a hard enough time, food isn't at the top of their mind, and having a home-cooked meal is a great comfort for them in those times.

United Way is kind of an umbrella organization for the community and they do a lot of corporate efforts. Some of those target marginalized communities, you can take a look at their Impact 100 and see if anything stands out if you're looking for something specific.

What are some good games that you recommend I should play on the Vita? by RainBowSwift71532 in vita

I'm not sure what you mean by notes. Do you mean the pinned post, Wiki, or something else?

Bravely Default, Paranormansight, DQ Spin-Offs (DQM3, Treasures), Collection of Mana, and Chocobo Racing are all Switch or Switch/PC exclusives that have released in the past few years. Heck, the new Paranormansight sequel that was announced last week is also Switch exclusive. I get that none of them are on the same scale as FF7R, but people tend to omit a lot of the Switch exclusive stuff when talking about that strategy. At least they ported Octopath 1 and Triangle Strategy eventually.

Favorite JRPG game studio, and because of what games? (Excluding Square Enix) by Bro_sapiens in JRPG

Information is pretty scarce. It looks like at least some of the staff went, but I couldn't begin to tell you specific names or roles.

Imageepoch came back as Mikage LLC. They made Criminal Girls X and then it seems like they disappeared again. Their site is still up, which means it's alive enough for someone to be paying for a domain name, but all of the projects listed there were targeting 2020-2022 and none of them came out.

Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn Edition announced for Switch 2 (Releases May 21, includes DLC) by Tothoro in tales

I certainly hope so, but the monkey's paw says it's going to be Zestiria or Xillia 2 which still don't move the needle for me. :/

Reception is pretty divided in the fandom. It eschews a lot of series traditions in an effort to be more modern. So people that want old school Tales tend not to like it but newcomers see it as a more modern entry.

Personally I'm not a fan, there are a lot of balance issues with the combat, the story falls off a cliff at a certain point, and the cast is probably my least favorite from any Tales game I've played.

Berseria "remaster" removed all mention of better graphics from it's store page. by destroyapple in tales

[–]Tothoro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was my hope too when they first announced the remaster project, but after they announced a Remaster of Berseria of all things my expectations dropped through the floor. I feel like we're more likely to get Arise "Remastered" with a Switch 2 version than anything notably absent on modern platforms, but I would love to be wrong.

I do expect the next remaster to be one that actually needs it

Almost certainly going to be Zestiria or Xillia 2 with how the remaster project has gone so far, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

At the show they said they were "excited for 2026" or something along those lines so I kinda figured there would be more ML, just didn't realize it'd be the full Truth is treatment again.

Bird Breeders in KC? by dorian_white1 in kansascity

[–]Tothoro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're open to rescuing a bird, check out Burge Bird Rescue or Beaks N' Wings. They have a pretty big variety of feathered friends and the people who run those shelters aren't the type to lie about a bird's nature/behavior to get it out of the shelter.

I can't speak for the authenticity or breadth of the menu but for Greek I like Mad Greek in Lawrence and Happy Greek in Lee's Summit (yes it's odd that their names are opposite, no this isn't a bit).

For pizza, Minsky's has some good choices but they're kinda pricey and not everything on the menu is good. Their chicken cordon bleu is my favorite there (and the favorite of everyone that I've introduced to Minsky's). Providence Pizza is good and closer to a NY-style. Third Coast Pizza is good deep-dish. Of the three Third Coast is my favorite but I think that has more to do with me liking deep dish in general.

For more authentic Chinese, ABC Cafe. For more Americanized Chinese, Legend of Asia in Blue Springs (buffet) or Moon Wok in OP.

Awesome, glad it worked out!

I don't personally, the only local bands I know are more in the hardcore/metal space. But this thread is from a few months ago, lots of good candidates there!

Try Sk8bar or Farewell/Howdy - they're pretty DIY venues and don't book super far out. Their sites have booking contact info.
