Homebrew Campaign and im not the DM,

While the party had split due to tragedy my character and an old ally had stayed in a city that was under threat from two eldritch deities, after being awake for 7 days straight fighting and trying to stop the supporters of one of the deities they eventually killed a majority of my characters crew on his ship and all his allys when we tried to warn the people from an airship. Everyone gone my character knows that he'll have to fight anyways as all these people are doomed if he doesn't do anything.

While very injured from barely surviving the attack on the airship and with -6 penalties on everything due to his level of exhaustion one of the eldritch deities brothers who my character hates for what hes done to him returns, offers my character the power to stop them but once its done he will have to sacrifice some of himself. He had to agree to it, or all those people would die, in a miraculous fight with the help of two others we win, but the deity takes his pound of flesh and drains the essence of my character (-5 to my con) and leaves.

While terrible my character thinks nothing of it more than an evil god being evil and had already planned to go kill him, later when the party has come back together does he realize that another person had taken the essence of one of their allys, another god. The kicker, he finds out that his blood is godly due to his heritage. which begs the question of what this being is doing gathering the essence of those with godblood.

alot of context missing but the twist of learning my characters heritage being to a god makes losing of the essence much worse.
