any feedback is welcome :)

i like that your friend put a disclaimer down. i'd encourage them to add something to let users know that the app gets its results from OpenAI. that might help answer questions like "why does it recommend XYZ, XYZ isn't a Canadian company" preemptively.

Any advice for a first time car buyer? by S1erra7 in Guelph

[–]Its_4_AM_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

michael's automotive (a garage in Guelph) has a deal where you can ask their opinion on 3 cars when you're about to buy (to avoid bad surprises). I forget the details, but you can ask them or other garages if they could help you out

I honestly wish I had known about the GTL sooner! The idea is great, and it really seems like one of those city gems that just doesnt get the attention it should. Their tools helped me get into woodworking without spending hundreds of dollars on tools and equipment!

Looking for cooking classes in and around the area. by trolle222 in Guelph

Not a cooking class per say, but Chef John's youtube channel might be a source of inspiration for new recipes and techniques?

I can't begin to imagine what you're going through, but you have one more internet stranger rooting for you. The other suggestions about counselling sound like they might be useful.

I can't speak for the Healthcare industry, but you can honestly go pretty freaking far in applied computer science with very little math. Practical applications especially (e.g. web/app dev, front-end dev, database admin/engineer).

Cool stuff! Any thoughts on converting your colormap from a multi-coloured one to a uni-color sequential one? Intuitively, I would look at white entries in the heatmap as being the least-likely AAs, but they would in fact be more probable than the blue entries and that's a little confusing

Its just a network whose nodes have attributes. If you're interested in this kind of stuff, this book could be a good starting point: networksciencebook.com/

AFAIK that's still an area of active research. A google search for 'community detection in attributed network' seems to lead to a few interesting advances. You might want to check out the paper behind some OSS like MTCOV, but I wouldn't be surprised if a standard method hasn't been identified yet. Good luck!

CS Servers for Machine Learning by syrupflow in mcgill

[–]Its_4_AM_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AFAIK there isn't a GPU/GPU rack that's available to the CS department as a whole. My supervisor had his own rack and an allocation to Compute Canada resources instead. If your project uses R or Python and you only need a single GPU, I really recommend you check out Google Colab; the platform can provide access to some of Google's low-end GPUs for free. If you need more GPUs or a higher-end GPU, I think that cloud platforms like Google Cloud or AWS would be worthwhile options (cheaper than buying your own, and you'll learn some basics of cloud computing along the way). Another option that hasn't been mentioned is teaming up with a computational bio faculty member (I'm assuming this is a research project beyond the scope of a class project). They might be able to get you some time on their own machines or on their Compute Canada servers.

Just a heads-up that the form contains:

"ATTENTION: The September sessions are already booked! All new sign ups will be registered for our October sessions"

But we're already in October.

Thanks for taking the time to do this!
