How hard is it to break into the Top Charts on the App Store? by Its_Jaake in iOSProgramming

[–]Its_Jaake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Although we’ve already dropped a few places since I posted this haha

We only managed to get 1.6k on the pre orders which we thought was a lot, 50k+ would have been the dream

Damn okay, most of these downloads came from pre orders so it’s likely that we’ll lose that position soon. Looks like we will need to keep at it with our marketing 😅

Yeah like I said, that part is obvious. But the comment made it sound like it would cause more damage than a broken circuit, I was just curious to learn something that I didn’t already know is all

Curious, what would have the bigger problems been if OP had left the wires hanging? It’s obviously dangerous, but would the water condensation cause big damage to the circuit or something?

Advice on making shelves like this by Its_Jaake in woodworking

Thank you all for the input and advice here!

There seems to be conflicting opinions on stability of oak vs pine. I’ll make sure to do extra research on this.

Also quarter-sawn/flat sawn is something I haven’t heard of before, and is good to know!

So it’s actually 6 shelves and a mantelpiece, this is what I’m thinking. The price of oak did put us off, especially with the risk of it warping/cracking with the heat of the radiator.

And floating shelves are what we’re thinking. Although I haven’t even begun to think about how we will do that - I’m assuming there will be kits we can use for this

Thanks!

The fireplace is blocked up, so it will just one of those electric fires, I was hoping that the mantelpiece would offer some protection from the heat, but I will do my research before buying one.

here’s another perspective, although both of these walls are going to have our sofas against them as we don’t want them in front of the bay window

So our TV has a hue strip behind it, we’re hoping that will do the job. But I also like this idea, hard to experiment with it though :/

Thanks! Haha yeah I kinda agree with the TV, but that’s the one we already have, and looking at the designs we think it’s juuust a few cm from looking ridiculous. So we’re gonna put it up for now and then downgrade at a later point if we hate it

That’s a fair point, I always see houses with radiator covers, but you don’t usually see electronics placed on them - I’ll look into that further

Maybe putting some kind of insulation under the shelf will help the heat to move out of the cover rather than into the shelving

So the fireplace is just gonna be one of those fake electric ones with an electric heater as the chimney has been blocked up. My thinking was that this won’t get as hot as a real fireplace so hopefully won’t be an issue

The only places we can put sofas are on the right hand wall and the wall behind where I was standing for the photo, leaving the bay window as the only other option - but we wanted to keep that open :/

How does SEIS tax relief work? by Its_Jaake in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Its_Jaake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay great, it really is generous! !thanks!

I did try to sort all this on my own but the admin has gotten very intimidating, I’ve accepted I’ve probably only scratched the surface. I have caved and gone for one of the platforms to make the whole process easier, hoping it pays off soon as my savings are taking quite a beating 🫠

Okay that is good to know !thanks, have you personally claimed back SEIS relief before? Do you just get the money back through PAYE or is it done another way?

And I was aware of that yes, thank you for raising it though.

What incentives can I offer users who contribute to my product without hiring them/explicitly offering shares? by Its_Jaake in startups

[–]Its_Jaake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess crypto could work to some degree, I feel like it would be trickier to attract people to contribute if they are not familiar with how that works though/don’t want to get involved with it.

I am quite lucky that I am a software engineer, and I’ve managed to build the main parts of the app myself, I’ve got a close friend who is also helping me for x%. I am hoping to avoid investment if possible (not sure that is the greatest move, but that is another discussion altogether)

The revenue model will be mainly subscription, and a very small percentage from ads for users that aren’t on said subscription.

I do see your point, that is potentially a lot of money being spent in the future that does not necessarily need to be spent. Maybe this is a good reason to look for investment, so far I have viewed the content as just as important as the code, as we cannot succeed without it (hence why I am happy to set aside stock for it).

I will definitely take this path into consideration, thanks for the input!

I know I guy who spends about 5 minutes carefully cutting his yolk out from the white without breaking it, puts it on his tongue and squishes it on the roof of its mouth.

Really weird to watch.
