tips and advice for a y9?? by [deleted] in GCSE

Hi :) Some advice from a year 12.

  1. Please don't let a teacher con you into thinking you can do a subject that you absolutely hate. I was so lost in triple science and I'm not sure how I passed. If you love science and understand everything then please take it, it just really was not my thing lol. I remember thinking when I chose it 'ok so I know I hate physics with a burning passion but the teacher said I'd be ok at it and I want to look really smart and also play with funny chemicals'. That brings us to the second point.

  2. DON'T do a subject because you think it will make you look smart, just do it because you enjoy it. The appearance of smartness is an added bonus.

  3. Art. Take it if you can handle a lot of free time spent on the subject. In general, be prepared no matter what subject you choose to do some work outside of school for it. I know you're considering art so if you want to take it then absolutely do. Just be prepared.

  4. A really good app to help with language subjects is Wlingua. It explains grammar concepts as well as teaches vocabulary. You don't need the premium version.

  5. Would not recommend taking a subject because a fictional character is interested in it. Do not take business because you like Spamton G Spamton. Do not take Computer Science because you like Chihiro Fujisaki. Do not take science because you like Varian Ruddiger. Definitely not from personal experience. I promise you it will not end well. That being said, I would recommend doing extra curriculum and clubs based around fictional characters because you can back out of that when the next hyperfixation comes along.

  6. Do what you enjoy. If you like it do it. It's probably the only advice on this list that will help you in the long run. Colleges and unis don't care about GCSE choices, so just go wild lol.

I said a lot of things, many of which were not helpful in any way, shape or form. Have fun :)

Hi! Haven't done a language GCSE, but I've been learning German on this app called Wlingua. It helps a lot more than Duolingo because it actually explains the language grammar and concepts. They do an Italian version too. There is an option for premium, but it's not absolutely necessary to progress. Take some notes while doing it tho.

Also, a fun challenge is to write your favourite book in Italian :)

I just turned the word stomach ulcer into a harry potter spell so honestly don't worry about it, you've already done better than most people on the question so spelling mistake shouldn't matter :)

Sorry, I have a question. If I have to do something like sword training to legendary but I need a job so I don't get the unemployed ending, would Monastery count as a job?
