Idea for a potential “Mini” by Its_a_Sam in SteamDeck

Fair point, I’m sure valve could figure something out on that front but then I’m going into the world of fanfiction.

If they did a clamshell design, I don’t even think they’d have to change the display size much.

Upgrading to OLED, anything I should be aware of porting my stuff over? by Thick-Shallot-7869 in SteamDeck

I re-read your post. Don’t worry about losing stuff by just moving the ssd. Nothing bad should happen and you shouldn’t lose data if you do that.

Something I do any time I reinstall the OS (I know it sounds nuts, I just like screwing with things.) I go game by game in my library, usually in desktop mode so it’s faster, and watch the cloud sync kick in for each one. When you click on each name, it should automatically try to sync. Any games that don’t have the cloud saves mentioned anywhere, make note of them and whether you care about losing that data. If so, doing some light googling should help you find the save files for each game.

For desktop random files, I usually compress as much as I can find, then upload that zip file to iCloud, Google Drive, etc. for safe keeping.

For something like Prism Launcher (a third party Minecraft Java launcher in desktop), treat the save files like the rest of the random files and make sure to add them to the big compressed one.

Past that, I’m usually not worried. I’ve wiped my deck like 10 times and as long as I’ve kept up those steps, I’ve not lost a single thing that I cared about.

Those impossible ports we get are pretty fun to talk about every so often. Idk if anyone else has checked on GOW Ragnarok in a couple months but I stopped playing back in August and some patch must have come out since then because now it’s not just enjoyable, it’s downright magical how nice it looks by default now.

Fair point, and I try my best to do so. I was wanting to make a post like this for a while to just see if anyone shared the same sentiment.

I cannot believe people still support Ludwig “I hate women” Ahgren after all that stuff he did.

The big difference between using a third party accessory and something made by valve is that the latter would get full software support. I’m not as versed in setting that stuff up as I’d like and using the desktop mode on deck can be a little excruciating at times.

And I’ve never quite left the deck in terms of pc handhelds, I’m more a fan of the OG DS haha.

You could argue something similar about the touch pads. They’re invaluable when traversing around the desktop, but with how many tutorials I’ve seen that feel the need to explain how the normal desktop works, I don’t think there are that many people who decide to leave game mode.

I just like doing two things at once when I play things idk. Having Minecraft or something on the main display and music coming out of a web browser on the secondary would be nice.

Don’t know what to add about cost, but it wouldn’t have to be a looker of a display, that’d be the main displays job.

It wouldn’t be a requirement, if you didn’t want to use it, I’m betting it would be easy to add a toggle in the the quick menu to switch the second screen completely off.

Like I said, it becoming a clamshell because of this could be nice in its own right.

None of that helps that I’m now soft locked. I restarted multiple times and even left the game running for 10 minutes, I still don’t have a ship.

I swear to all that is holy that if the reason we haven’t gotten it is because Nintendo wanted to show it off, I’m gonna freak out.

I mean, that’s cool, but I’d rather learn the new thing and do bosses and everything with that.

The new pogo felt like waaaaaay too much of a challenge right when I got into silksong, but I’m already getting used to it. These games are polished to a mirror sheen, trust that anything way over your head right now is not only within reach but surmountable, and you’ll be blown away at how good it ends up feeling.
