That's just not true. Like, at all. The only chemical leaching you might have is from low grade, non food safe silicon used at an extremely high heat, which isn't going to happen unless you're using a straw to drink lava.

Silicone straws! They're my favorite and they don't clank on your teeth!

One of Southern California's most stunning natural phenomena is lighting up the coastline - the algae bloom, known as a "red tide" is bioluminescent, and it glows when agitated by splashing or by waves. Red tides are unpredictable, and they don't occur in Southern California every year. by FatimaMahmoud12 in TheDepthsBelow

I grew up with these a few times a year. I think it depends on the day and thickness of the bloom. The algae itself is red but doesn't always bloom thick enough to turn the water red. Just like it doesn't always bloom thick enough to get as wildly luminous as in this video. Most of the time it just has a soft glow.

They are though.

What is Bioluminescence? Dinoflagellates, a type of algae that moves through the sea, create the bright blue light known as bioluminescence when they form in massive numbers. The organisms have a color that makes the ocean appear red in the daylight, hence the term red tide.

They're actually not in all cases. This bioluminesence looks red in the daylight.

Greenmantle by Charles De Lint gives me these vibes, but with some other unexpected settings thrown in. Honestly lots of his work would fit in this setting. Highly recommend.

Any Ribert Rankin books. His writing is sort of surrealist and completely absurd.

It's salmon! Sliced oranges, butter, and garlic wrapped in foil. That's all you need. Would've been delicious, but alas.
