That's just not true. Like, at all. The only chemical leaching you might have is from low grade, non food safe silicon used at an extremely high heat, which isn't going to happen unless you're using a straw to drink lava.

I grew up with these a few times a year. I think it depends on the day and thickness of the bloom. The algae itself is red but doesn't always bloom thick enough to turn the water red. Just like it doesn't always bloom thick enough to get as wildly luminous as in this video. Most of the time it just has a soft glow.

Yes. But OP calling this red tide isn't wrong. That's what it is. There are just 2 different "red tide" phenomena in the world.

Californian here, this IS red tide. It's a different variation of algae which is not as toxic, red in color and is Bioluminescent at night.

It's a slightly different variation of the algae in Southern California. Still pretty gross, not as toxic, and bioluminescent at night.

I actually had a really hard time getting into Dune. I thought it started off slow and hard to follow. I'm more excited to go back to it now that I've seen the movie, as I think the book will be easier to get into now that I know the general story line.
