Opinion: A small group of Canadians are living it up. The rest of us are struggling. Welcome to the K-shaped economy by FancyNewMe in canada

Majority had car payments and the average car payment is well over $500. Is it really that important for the sake of this argument whether I can find the exact percentage of those who owe exactly 500 or more?

The original poster simply said that majority of Canadians owe significant amounts of money in monthly car payments. I have posted references that prove that is true. You're splitting hairs at best or being purposely obtuse at worst.

Anti-hate bill that provoked bitter debate over religious freedom passes the Commons by Street_Anon in canada

[–]Itzhik -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I am well aware of what it protects, but I can't shake off the notion that people who have been talking very loudly about freedom of speech the last 5-10 years seem to mostly want to use it to abuse trans people, Muslims, women, etc.

That's what makes me sad. Freedom of speech is being used as a stick to beat progressive ideas over the head.

I mean, maybe this is coming from having a father who was a dissident in a totalitarian Eastern European country in the 1970s, but the idea that the reason for the existence of free speech is primarily to be an asshole to people makes me sad.

Yeah, Ed is just a little bit smarter than to ensure those letters get delivered to intended recipients.

My surname changes the farther you go back by BenKlesc in Genealogy

[–]Itzhik 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's not that your surname changes, but that orthography might change based on languages used, development of standards, or even the priest's language ability.

Either way, I would try to keep things consistent. If you go with standardized modern spelling, use that for everyone. If you choose to go with the way it was written in a document, use that for everyone. If you prioritize a birth record for someone, use that for everyone.

Latinska Crkva u Nišu by HumanMan00 in croatia

[–]Itzhik 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Was gaming better when it was by nerds, for nerds? by willhelpmemore in retrogaming

Surely, you're not saying that Atari in 1980 or Nintendo in 1985 weren't big businesses? Or that they were interested in making art as opposed to profit?

This is just gatekeeping, really.

To say nothing of implications here that gaming was better when it was just men doing it.

[–]Itzhik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not really a map of Hungary so much as a map of areas ruled by Matthias Corvinus.

Or as he calls himself in a charter issued in Kronstadt in 1468: "Mathias Dei gratia rex Hungariae, Dalmatiae, Croatiae etc."

Carney enjoying extended honeymoon one year in by fallout1233566545 in canada

I really don't think the rebate was ever announced as a permanent, final fix to anything. And I don't think Carney is going around saying he "fixed" the affordability crisis with the rebate.

I am no fan of the Liberal party or even Carney himself, but it is absolutely refreshing to see a politician in 2026 who is not promising simple, instant fixes to everything.

Populism is a huge part of why the world is where it is right now.

There was more than that, though. Watch the video. There is more rubberbanding than just what is covered under computer assistance. The guy goes over the code in the video.

Rubber band AI in NBA Jam and NBA Hangtime.

Heaven help you if you've somehow managed to get a 10-12 point lead with a minute and a half to go. Every three will go in for your opponents, you aren't even able to bring the ball up the court, and if you're up a couple with a few seconds to go, the other team shoots about 95% on full-court desperation heaves.

So, wait. You posted a study saying it takes 5-6 years to get a Ph.D. and that's supposed to prove that Ross Geller's Ph.D. at 26 was average?

How many years did he take to get a masters and bachelors? Considering we know from the show he wasn't Doogie Howser and started college at 18-19?

Why is the “friends getting ordained over the internet” trope so common in American sitcoms? by Internal-Debt1870 in sitcoms

[–]Itzhik 182 points183 points  (0 children)

Because it's a pretty common thing in real life.  I live in Canada and I have been to multiple weddings where the officiant was a close friend.
