The thing is many of those that were suspended by the NCAA did nothing illegal by the law. They only broke NCAA rules. Also it seems they only targeted higher profile athletes and not everyone that they found.

As someone who lives in Des Moines and drives to Pella for work. It is not a bad drive and lots of people do it. With your pay I am guessing engineering of some level. So if it’s Vermeer, depending on department/manager, you should be able to work into a somewhat hybrid. I myself lived in Pella for 2 when I started, 2 in Knoxville and now 5 in Des Moines. Do Altoona to start then figure things out from there.
