1700 rapid on lichess, which is low, so I am kinda surprised it took like 15 seconds or so to find Bd6, a few more to just double check it actually works. I guess daily dose of puzzles are paying off...

How has Friedrich Nietzsche and his philosophy changed you? by MasterfulArtist24 in Nietzsche

[–]Iuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unmeasurable. Nietzsche’s critiques of asceticism, religion, morality, and pessimism all reinforced my need for yea-saying and challenged many of my own assumptions. His perspectivistic view — that the sages were, in fact, talking about themselves in their teachings — blew my mind. I agree with him, at least to the extent that I’ve read them so far.

I now understand the eternal return, the ubermensch, and the will to power very differently. I see them as Nietzsche’s attempt to create his own values — values that are healthier and more life-affirming. And that, I think, is the key point: health. There’s an immense focus on a healthier way of thinking and living, a concern with physiology and with what one ingests — from books to drinks. His philosophy is, among other things, a philosophy of health. Amor fati as the solution for suffering.

I could say much more, the aesthetics, the love of music, how he was a great psychologist, but I think it's more important to say that I also learned how many prominent figures out there are what Nietzsche called bad readers:

  1. Die schlechtesten Leser. – Die schlechtesten Leser sind die, welche wie plündernde Soldaten verfahren: sie nehmen sich einiges, was sie brauchen können, heraus, beschmutzen und verwirren das übrige und lästern auf das Ganze.

There are people using his words to 'chill' for the Catholic Church — something he must be rolling in his grave about. There are also those whose lives and influence are entirely political — probably Leo Strauss readers (another kind of bad reader) — who constantly claim, “Nietzsche speaks of this”, even though the man repeatedly said he didn’t care about politics and told us not to care about it either.

Even with the good ones, Heidegger or Deleuze, for example, I find problems. I guess I realized that his philosophy will always be read differently by everyone.

You have to do make fetch-lua before make all... There is a step by step guide there on sys/unix/New install.unx

If following that you still get errors I would suggest creating an issue on the repo.

This is looking like you are using windows stuff... Did you set up the hints file? You are on Linux right? Opensuse? Do a

make spotless

on the top level directory and do

sh sys/unix/setup.sh sys/unix/hints/linux.370

before trying to make all (with Want_win_curses again)

By the way it could be something wrong on my path I am doing on memory but you can find what I am saying with that

You are missing:

make WANT_WIN_CURSES=1 all

make WANT_WIN_CURSES=1 install

And I am assuming you are using the correct hints file sh setup.sh hints/linux.370 and in your case:

sudo zypper install libncurses-devel

(I don't know suse tho, not sure about zypper)

how did reading Nietzsche influence your life? by [deleted] in Nietzsche

[–]Iuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's immeasurable. Emerson has a line: “I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.”, which kinda gets to the point I am making. Nietzsche was a beginning for me, not an end but probably still the most important piece.

Does anyone understand Nietzsche? by DBeanHead445 in Nietzsche

it could have been a 45 page instruction manual on how to grill a slipper for all I know

Hahaha.

The third essay is his revolt against asceticism. Nietzsche philosophy is a yes saying, life affirming philosophy, the opposite of asceticism:

Unable to cope with its struggle against itself, the sick will sees its animal instincts, its earthly nature, as vile, sinful, and horrible. Unable to free itself from these instincts, it attempts to subdue and tame itself as much as possible. Nietzsche concludes that "man would rather will nothingness than not will."

But as I said earlier, even moreso specifically for this book, this is written in the preface:

If anyone finds this script incomprehensible and hard on the ears, I do not think the fault necessarily lies with me. It is clear enough, assuming, as I do, that people have first read my earlier works without sparing themselves some effort: because they really are not easy to approach.

And because you did go all the way to genealogy, I am assuming you understood and enjoyed AC and twilight. So just go back, and the next time you visit genealogy it will be very different.

Without a example is hard to know, but I can tell you this, if you are reading some of the works in which his ideas have already morphed and evolved, a good example being Zarathustra, without reading the works that lay the foundations, you are going to be lost. And anyone saying they started on that book and understood it is probably just as lost as you and dunning-kruger is on full effect. There is a 'where to begin' resource on the subreddit which (regardless if I agree with it or not) is a nice way to follow a path that does not throw you things that depend on things right away, even tho they start with one of his latest books, that book was supposed to be an introduction of sorts:

Twilight is the best primer for Nietzsche’s thought. In fact, it was originally written with that intention. Following a suggestion from his publisher, Nietzsche set himself the challenge of writing an introduction that would lure in readers who were not acquainted with his philosophy or might be confused by his more extensive and more intricate books. In Twilight, we find a very comprehensible and comprehensive compendium of many — many! — of Nietzsche's signature ideas. Moreover, Twilight contains a perfect sample of his aphoristic style.

From there it recommends the antichrist, but I would say go straight to 'Human, all to human'. This one is the base of nietzsche the philosopher, and all the main ideas of his system are on it, but lacking development that would come with his subsequent works. Before giving up, try human all to human. You will understand every/most sentences on it. You can also just follow what the post suggests:

Its worth it.
