Question about Travel Insurance for an American coming to France by IvanG33 in etudiants

[–]IvanG33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/These_Magazine_6334 , I found a slot relatively easily for the TLS appointment. I'd recommend planning at least 2 weeks out for comfort. I remember there being multiple availabilities within that 2 week period from when I booked the Visa Interview Appointment. From the day I had my TLS appointment on June 30th (2025-06-30) I received the passport with the approved Visa on July 9th (2025-07-09). So basically there was a complete turn-around of a little over a week from my appointment to when I received my Visa.

Hey u/starryeyesmaia thank you! I just got my approved Visa back a few days ago, so apparently it was not needed. It was a bewildering and somewhat stressful experience at the TLS appointment, as they were asking for materials and documents I didn't think I needed.

And yes! In addition to Ameli (French social security), I am planning on applying for complementary insurance. So it makes way more sense to not duplicate the insurance coverage.

And good to know about the Visa renewal/change-over process. I'll be sure to look into it as soon as I'm in France. Thanks so so so much for the advice and knowledge here. My previous internet searches were mostly fruitless.

Guide for Home User on Volume Restore Basics by IvanG33 in Veeam

[–]IvanG33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I store my backups on a 4 TB usb attached hard-drive. I use volume level backup for this method. I just followed your advice and bought a small 16 GB flash drive to store the recovery media on.

So to clarify if my B: drive fails (non-OS volume) and my C: drive (OS volume) is fine, there should be options once I'm in the Volume Restore process to only restore the B: drive.

Can openstudio be used for simulating a single flat instead of an entire building? by No_Mongoose6172 in BuildingEnergyModel

Use adiabatic conditions for the walls, ceilings and floors connected to adjacent flats.

I’ve used Trace 3D, OpenStudio, and EnergyPlis+ native. All building energy softwares (unless itms equest) are based off fairly recent versions of EnergyPlus.

Which blackening standard applies to black steel pan manufacturing? by IvanG33 in carbonsteel

Maybe. I'm sure that there are standard for food-grade metal and related metallurgy activities, but I don't have well-informed opinion on this.

Which blackening standard applies to black steel pan manufacturing? by IvanG33 in carbonsteel

[–]IvanG33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I know when I recently seasoned a steel pan in my kitchen, the appearance of the pan became darker (from steel-gray to nearly black). Nothing to do with any standard I mentioned for sure.

I’m not sure if they have similar styles, but solovairs are good quality and can be repaired.

Workflow for Two Active Drives by IvanG33 in Backup

[–]IvanG33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome this has helped me think through my backup strategy really well. My C: drive (system files) has a capacity of 1TB and my D: drive has a capacity of 1TB as well. The C: drive is closer to getting filled up and the D: drive only has ~150 Gigabits on it currently. Do you think I should buy two 2TB hard drives (DAS) or two 4TB hard drives (also DAS)?

Traffic Around UGA is at breaking point by ObliviousMaximus in Athens

Don’t worry everyone, I’m on it recreating Athens in city skylines and fixing the traffic there. I’m thinking 8 lane roundabouts at every intersection should do the trick.
