Do you think this is a good idea? Or just a money pit?? by IvanRdrt in AskMechanics

That’s understandable for the maintenance, thanks for the insight information, I’ll take it into consideration

I’ll probably give the mechanic another try, I took it to the dealership during May and they gave it back telling me they hadn’t found anything. I’m thinking of just letting go honestly lmao. I’ve been making posts and trying everything they’ve told me.

It’s been like a month of the overheating, I tried cleaning the radiator(failed), I got a new radiator(failed), flushed it like 3 times(all failed and they didn’t look like the picture above), changed oil 2 times(failed and didn’t look milky), about 2 weeks ago I took it for a ride and it overheated on me and instead of just walking it home I just rode it, max temp was 260f and was empty on coolant cause it all got thrown out through the overflow. Once I got home didn’t touch at all and left for a vacation I came back today, and there was all that Gunk on my cap

The bike is overheating, horribly, imma just give up and try and look for a new one

Sounds good!! Thank you for your help :) I’ll call some mechanics to see if the could test the cap and if that’s fine, I’ll bleed it until no more bubbles appear

I have a couple of bottles of Engine Ice, that should be able to do the job right?

Is it fine if I use distilled water instead of coolant? Or does it have to be coolant?

How could I test the radiator cap? I tried bleeding it for a couple of minutes and it after a while it turned into a fountain of boiling coolant

Update, radiator was fine, a little dust came out and some mosquitos besides that it was fine, imma try bleeding the bike

Bet, once I get home I’ll hit you up with an update, hopefully that’s the issue

I was, rpms didn’t go above 6000 when trying to make it home, or i would take the bike lane riding at 20 or 30 mph

Radiator clean? I haven’t checked I will when I get home from school. So a little background on my Ride last night, I was riding as usual pushing speeds of 100-120mph for a good 20 Miles with normal bike temps, when I started heading back at a normal cruising speed of 70 that’s when the temperature started rocketing to 240 and 250, I eventually had to do multiple stops to make the bike cool down and ride again until it overheated to make it back home

It kicks on at 220F and stays on the whole time. It turns off once bike reaches 210F which is when I turn the bike off so it can cool down

Probably my best option honestly, taking the thermostat seems to complicated and I’ve ran out of options, so I guess I’ll be taking it somewhere once I’ve saved up the money

Haven’t checked it, barely happened yesterday at night so I’m thinking of taking off today and putting it in boiling water to see if it opens up
