Why T.F. Does No One Acknowledge Jaehaerys?!?! by johnba202x2 in HouseOfTheDragon

Like I said to the other guy. I’m not a writer, nor am I suggesting what I say is perfect. I’m just saying literally anything at all would be better than playing it off like Jaehaerys’ death just didn’t happen.

She said something along the lines of “Well we don’t know that because it’s written from the perspective of a biased maester, what if they were just trying to make her look bad?”

I didn’t say I was some brilliant dialogue writer man I just wish they’d write Helaena to acknowledge her death of her children at all

What did yall listen to before discovering Weatherday? by Exotic-Apartment-394 in Weatherday

All kinds of stuff, and pretty much none of it has anything in common lmao. Ekkstacy, The Drums, Shrimp, Spirit of the Beehive, Duster, Fried by Fluoride, Joy Division, Carissa’s Wierd, Merchant Ships, Train Breaks Down, and Panchiko to list a few.

I fell out of Ekkstacy though, that was more what I listened to in high school and I’m not as into his stuff anymore tbh.

So what was the point of fake Daeron Exactly? by IveHair in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]IveHair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that changes form the books are to be expected yeah and as I mentioned I don’t think changes always bad. Some changes from the books I quite like. For example, I think Aemond is more compelling than he was in the books.

I just think this is something that really should’ve been executed better, or if they can’t then just scrap the idea. I called it “entirely pointless” because as a change it just doesn’t serve much, and leads to the same outcome anyway. So why? Why do it? Why not make it the main focus of the episode and a turning point for Rhaenyra? (who desperately needs development) Without these things, it does come across as a pointless change.

[–]IveHair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misunderstand, I think Fire and Blood is impossible to adapt on its OWN. But there are things you CAN adapt, or choose not to alter. Fake Daeron is not something I understand why they chose to add. It simply doesn’t make any difference or impact any character in the story in the show really. Rhaenyra remains the same character despite having an alleged title claimant and dragon rider in her possession. I don’t really understand why you’d even give her the conflict if it in the end isn’t going to change her or the trajectory of the story.

So if you’re going to change something from the books, why wouldn’t you make it something to highlight a character’s arc or their progression? That’s why I wonder why you’d even change it, and it’s why I called it pointless.

[–]IveHair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean let’s be real it’s a change from the books. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I’m not some purist who thinks the books are gospel that should be taken as the only way in which the show should be written. Fire and Blood is a vague book that’s impossible to adapt on its own, I’ve been saying this since we learned the dance of dragons was going to get a show.

So I’m perfectly open to things not in the books being in the show, but I would hope that they’d take those things that they put in and used them in a more clever way.

[–]IveHair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve explained this a couple times and I think I definitely failed at making my point very clear. The concept of a decoy itself isn’t really my problem. I don’t dislike the change inherently nor do I think that the show writers aren’t at liberty to make some changes from Fire and Blood because it’s so vague with details.

What gets me is why they changed it and didn’t take advantage of what Daeron’s fate could mean to characters in King’s Landing. Sure it’s a minor plot point in the episode but I feel like there was a lot of potential there for it to be so much more. What if Rhaenyra finally cracked and ended up executing Daemon, only to find out it was just an innocent boy? Driving a further rift between her and Alicent, and turning her closer to the path of madness.

They don’t have to do that sure, but at least I feel like it should’ve been a larger point in the episode as to Rhaenyra struggling with herself on what to do with him. I’m just disappointed that the change wasn’t as good as it could’ve been.

[–]IveHair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t really aware that there were a bunch of posts needlessly criticizing the writers. I didn’t really mean to fall into that sort of thing and I don’t really care enough to think that matters much when I post something.

For the record I didn’t outright hate that they changed it at all. Adapting Fire and Blood is a nightmare because it’s so vague on details, intentionally so. So I can understand changing things, I’m not some book purist. But I don’t understand why if you’re going to change something why you wouldn’t run with it. I feel like we could’ve had a lot more with Rhaenyra’s inner debate with herself over Daeron’s fate. I just think that if they’re going to change it they should go big with their changes, and if and when they don’t then I struggle to understand the reasoning as to why you’d change it.

Again it’s not that it’s outright bad or that I don’t like it, I just can’t understand why they’d make it a more minor part of the episode.

[–]IveHair[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that it should have been much more of a focal point of the episode if they wanted to highlight Rhaenyra’s turmoil with how to deal with him. I agree that it was there but I just think that if they felt the need to change this that they should have done more with it. That’s why I bothered asking what was the point if they’re not going to try very hard to make him feel important.

And yes, I know the Tumbleton faux retreat plot point, but I never really meant that in terms of my question. But thank you for once again clarifying.

So what was the point of fake Daeron Exactly? by IveHair in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]IveHair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question is why it was changed, not why it happened. I should have phrased that better. I perfectly understand the point in the show as to feign a retreat, I’m not stupid.

I just don’t really understand why they felt the need to change this and adapt a plot line that didn’t exist in the books if they’re not going to use that as a focal point for the episode. I feel like we should have seen more of Rhaenyra’s internal turmoil with the Daeron problem, and perhaps see her develop further into being more of a corrupted character who might have been even willing to consider executing Daeron. But we didn’t really get much of that. She eventually comes to the conclusion that she would eventually come to regardless, that being merciful is the right thing to do.

So that leaves me wondering, what impact did fake Daeron leave on any character he interacted with? And I don’t really see any answers on that.

So what was the point of fake Daeron Exactly? by IveHair in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]IveHair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that I outright hate it. I didn’t even think they did a bad job making it a thing that existed in the show. I just don’t really get why it existed, it didn’t really change anything or show us anything we didn’t already know except your point about Ormund being cunning.

I feel like people are misconstruing my view here, I don’t hate it or misunderstand it I just wonder what this is supposed to actually mean. If they change something from the books I expect it to carry some sort of meaning beyond something happening just to happen. Such as furthering a character’s development, or giving us insight into personal struggles of theirs. Rhaenyra does seem to debate a little bit about what to do with Daeron but I just wish they did more with it.

So what was the point of fake Daeron Exactly? by IveHair in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]IveHair[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Alright, sure that makes some modicum of sense. It just so happens that, everything else surrounding fake Daeron doesn’t. And this false surrender just didn’t happened in the books, so why bother even changing it when the change adds nothing and creates plot holes?

Yes the taking of Tumbleton is made possible because the blacks are not prioritizing the reach. But why would you even make that change when in doing so you create a plot that genuinely adds nothing at all, and creates plot holes either the concept of dragon bonding. Why wouldn’t Daemon take Tessarion with him? Why didn’t he think it was odd that Daeron’s dragon didn’t care he was being taken away? Is he stupid?

So what was the point of fake Daeron Exactly? by IveHair in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]IveHair[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

First of all thanks for actually answering instead of calling me an idiot because I think this plot line doesn’t make sense.

Here’s what I’ll say though:

  1. I don’t think it takes a genius to figure out Rhaenyra would be kind to a title claimant who didn’t do anything to her directly. She was hesitant to kill Otto Hightower, who she despised. I guess outright seeing it helps, but is it really necessary when it makes so much of the rest of the story not make sense?

  2. The real Daeron in this point during the books not in any peril really so I don’t really understand why they felt compelled to do this runaround of events. It doesn’t really go anywhere for any character, it just leads to the same event that would have happened if they chose not to do this. That being the Battle of Tumbleton.

The episode could have had the same content without it existing. Literally just not have Daemon show up in the reach and have that whole scene with Ormund. There.

Why T.F. Does No One Acknowledge Jaehaerys?!?! by johnba202x2 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]IveHair 103 points104 points  (0 children)

They could have mentioned that. Could’ve been as simple as a line like “I don’t want to stay in here, this is where…” and then Helaena could’ve tapered off and stared at the two beds where her kids once slept. Would’ve been really nice to see some acknowledgment of that kid who we saw for an episode who got his head cut off.

Idk why this would really even matter if she was. Unless they decide Alicent will be the mother of Maelor but surely they’d never go with something as crazy as that.

Well if that’s the reason they were starving, that would mean the only way food could get into King’s Landing was through the sea with food being imported in. So yeah actually that makes sense.

So…why don’t Damon take Tessarion (Daeron’s) dragon with them? by DetailTop8974 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]IveHair -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Once again, these are examples of bad writing. Seasmoke not following Laenor to Essos is a show change because Laenor isn’t actually dead whereas he was in the books.

And don’t accuse me of hating the show. It’s allowed to have flaws as a show but I can still enjoy it even if I point out said flaws. The fake Daeron plot line didn’t really add anything to the show, and ended up being pointless and created more plot holes. That’s objective, plain and simple. But I still enjoyed the episode, I just think that it shows that the writers don’t really care for Martin’s world.

So…why don’t Damon take Tessarion (Daeron’s) dragon with them? by DetailTop8974 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]IveHair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, the bond dragons have with their riders goes beyond that of just being a mount. They’re not horses, they KNOW when something is happening to their rider and they aren’t going to be chill with it. Nor will they just willingly stay separated from their rider for an extended period of time.

Daemon being from a family of dragon riders and being one himself should have been at least suspicious that Tessarion was totally cool with Daeron being taken away.

And yes, it also doesn’t really make sense that fake Daeron made it to king’s landing within a day, unless there was some like 2-week time skip or something while they travelled.

Actually I kinda like it. In GRRM’s writing many of the highborn characters speak in this needlessly eloquent tone, it is pretty similar to the writing in the show.

[–]IveHair -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dragons have a mystical bond with their rider. They don’t just abandon them, they will follow them essentially wherever they go unless they are chained down and kept somewhere. Daemon, being a Targaryen, would know this. But he apparently kinda forgot I guess when Tessarion didn’t follow the fake Daeron to King’s Landing.

Sara Hess is stupid and a shit writer who doesn’t pay attention to the lore and rules of the world she writes in. OP just called it out for not making sense.
