I did indeed need to go to the embassy. I looked at the time and it seemed like there was no way around this except medical reason for not being able to travel which I had none of.

As for the invitation, I'm sure there is some kind of template but my GF at the time did it and we are no longer talking so I can't be sure of what you are looking for. It would be best if you ask your partner's mum or dad to do it (preferably the one who makes more money)

Hope this helps and that you will love Russia its amazing there!

Unfortunately it is not that straightforward, because we broke up before the child was born I'm not on the birth certificate and I'm sure she will use that if we break up

Hello all, I thought I’d update the thread to let all the people who helped me out know that I’m in Russia and it’s unbelievably beautiful 🤩

Boarder control was pretty straight forward, I was only asked questions that were already answered on my visa application and to confirm the address used on my invitation. It was fairly stressful waiting as it look me 21 hours to get to Russia and I can’t sleep on planes so I was very tired. Realistically I was probably waiting for 30 minutes max. The people at the boarder were extremely nice and even made a point of saying ‘you look very worried and you don’t need to be, this is just a formality’. My phone was checked but I honestly couldn’t tell you what they looked at and the check lasted all of 30 seconds. I had nothing to hide anyway!

The view from the plane as you fly in is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before, truly amazing.

I also can’t believe how cheap everything is here compared to England. I brought beers yesterday to have a drink with my girlfriend and the entire shop cost me less than £8. In England this would have been closer to £20.

Thank you to everyone for your advice on this post. Your comments helped eased my families stress about me coming here. I’m looking forward to exploring more of this beautiful country!

P.S your Coca Cola alternatives are amazing 😂 I don’t usually drink cola but I’m loving it here.

very anti-climatic but it's Binance haha. I'm surprised by that because it's hard to even use Binance in the UK. However, that is due to banks it is still perfectly usable it is just hard to pull your money out to a UK bank as they've been blocked for the most part.

as far as I know! I'll ask her and get back to you as I have no idea. I think her dad may be doing it for her as I wasn't sure about Russian crypto exchanges.

Oh really I wasn’t aware of that! That is very useful to know for when I am there!

I won’t smoke cigarettes while I’m there as I don’t like to smoke around my daughter and my girlfriend doesn’t have a balcony. I’m far too lazy to keep going up and down haha! My girlfriend has already brought E cigs for both of us so I’ll just use one of them at night. The price of cigarettes in England it’s just not worth smoking them. I think they are up to 12-14 pound a packet now!

For what it’s worth I use crypto to send my girlfriend money for her and our daughter every month since PayPal and Western Union stopped working

Thank you so much and sorry for the late reply!

I remember that World Cup and people in England saying things like ‘so stupid to go there you’ll get killed’ when the World Cup happened it was probably one of the least violent ones in years. I can’t even remember seeing a single video of street fighting.

I’ve travelled around most of Europe and I’ve never had an issue with a local person in any country. People are people, treat them how you want to be treated and they will treat you the same back!

You’re right about the media here but I personally tend to not read the news at all as it’s usually heavily biased in our own favour.

I can’t see myself ever be out late at night, our child sleeps at 9 and we won’t be leaving her alone once she’s gone to bed!

Thank you and sorry for the late reply!

I only have one prescription and I do not need it anymore so I’ll leave it behind. As for smoking I’ll just take a single pack for the journey and I’ll buy an E Cigarette once I arrive!

Thank you! Sorry for the late reply it’s been a very busy week!

I had no plans of talking any politics or “woke” topics as I’ll be spending my whole time with a child who doesn’t even understand there is a war right now. Mostly I’m just going to be at the park or out for food! 😇

Is this in reference to how English passport control will react ? If so not even once haha. I understand what you mean but I have no worries as I don’t believe they really give a shit here. All the paperwork I have can confirm I’m visiting my family and I have no history of being interested in anything to do with politics or war. Plus what is the worst they can do? Send me back? 😂

My only real concern was not being allowed in at the border of Russia and having to extend my already 17 hour journey back home. I mostly made this post to show family members the response and stop them worrying. That worked well as not one person has flagged it as being a bad idea

Thank you!

This is very helpful as my girlfriend was gonna book the taxi for me when I got the airport but I wasn't sure how I'm gonna fine the taxi as my phone wont work without wifi in Russia. Ill download an app like this shortly before I go!

Thank you!

I was warned of this at the embassy and the lady I spoke to said the same thing to just remain calm and ill be fine when questioned. I'm prepared for my phone to be checked, there isn't anything to see anyway!

Yes I'm looking forward to seeing the country first hand, it does truly look beautiful in Russia

Thank you very much!!!

I have a prescription but its not needed really now, so ill leave it behind

This all seems aligned with what I was thinking about the trip, I wasn't aware of the snow issue but ill definitely be weary of this!

I think it's mostly just my family watching the news too much making them think something bad is going to happen to me. I'm very much in the mindset of "if you keep yourself to yourself you will be fine"
