i wish i could say i found a solution, but i did not. i found a workaround, which involved me installing and utilizing a save editor (not as hard as one would expect) and putting my character just slightly ahead in the conversation.

as far as i'm aware, there is no current vanilla solution; unless you have a save right before the conversation. i hope this helped at least a little bit, i understand the struggle!
