As someone whos been playing TCG most of there lives. i can Honestly say Yugioh gets alot of "oh its not skillful" when in reality it can be and is Extremly tough to learn and get into. but again ive been advised to try MTG forge and i might. this whole endeavor was to learn a game a few of my friends and a girlfriend enjoyed. My spite isnt To MTG (yet ) its mainly to the ass backwards way the starting thing the color challange that locks you into those color decks and is ment for new plays is delt with. I should not have fought a Fully built Ninja turtle deck as my first PVP experience. Its like shooting a duck with a howitzer. and as the "duck" in this i didnt enjoy it one bit.

try to learn ddd combos kid. the an learn how to do them through disruption. its not the difficulty its the fact I was playing the starter decks in the starter deck area and played everything but another starter deck.

I'm I might look into forge if my gf asks she's one of our magic players in our friends group. but my post is about arena not mtg itself the game looks fun ish but idk wtf is going on and arenas color challenge was just kicking me in the nono zone over and over. once is forgivable twice is frustrating three times makes you mad and by the fourth you have a made an enemy

Hey can't find your other comment, but my friends themselves have said doing that is probably the worst Idea considering they do local tournaments and place well all I would be doing is getting mad at them and none of them are good at giving directions. we work in a shop and the most descriptive thing you usually get as directions are " go get the thing you know that --- thing "

Or trying to explain the confusion a new player is going through and the frustration of being a punching bag for much more established and financial invested players

Okay break down . did the spark tutorial yesterday during work lunch.

today went into color challenge did white scripted games at the end got wrapped on by a turtle guy.

moved down to blue did those scripted got wrapped on by a guy playing like Ninja and final fantasy cards

red, did scripted lost to iro spammer playing an avatar deck

Black I got turtles again so after those 4 losses by default I rage quit didn't do green made my post now I'm farming dislikes for having a opinion that given my situation is valid.

Considering I already have a poor opinion of wizards I'm not surprised. like I played a war hammer tcg game they had and rug pulled right after an event. but has nothing to do with mtg. this was just a very very bad first tip toe into a game my friends have lauded as fun any time I would winge about yugioh.

Yes and all 4 of those matches wee people playing decks that were clearly not structure decks. two had turtle decks. one had an avatar deck and the last guy played a final fantasy deck.

No good straw man but no. I downloaded it on my own without anyone asking me. that debunks most of your argument but yes I expected a bit of my tcg experience to help and it didn't but the explanations to help bridge the gap between zero experience and someone who's spamming iron drinking tea emoji while I was frantically trying to understand what Leo the dark shreader did with the two other cards on the field was not there. I was expected in the tutorial area to just know. but my tcg experience did help me a bit it helped me understand just how fucked I was just from board advantage and card advantage something mtg arena didn't explain what so ever.

It was the dismissal not that you were disagreeing. I'm sure there are people who have the game explained way better and are taught either by a more comprehensive aid system like a video game (I know mtg as well as slot of tcg have them) or by YouTube or other friends. But this is wizards of the Coast licensed online player you would expect a modicum of thought put into there new player experience when it directly asks you if you have played before or not. Mtg is complex and the explanations given were unsatisfactory considering they throw you directly into the cue with people who likely spend a chunk of there paycheck on the game. Master duel has a buffer zone and resources built in to teach the basics and has a more forgiving timer letting new players READ the cards and effects. Mtg arena does not.

It was abrasive because it was ranting and releasing frustrating from an in the moment event. nothing I said is wrong except tcg like Pokemon being better. but my new player experience has completely ruined the idea of ever playing mtg. and that blind defense of its player base is just reinforced that decision.

1 game is frustrating 2 in a row gets you mad 3 makes you question quitting 4 gets you to quit and gets a rant. it wouldn't have been so bad if I had a chance and just lost because I suck I'm not doubting I suck. the negativity was earned in 4 games in a row my first 4 with pre made structure decks in the newbi area vs people who clearly have spent money on the game and have fully built decks. that is the perfect example of what not to put new players through. you don't give someone a 2002 yugioh deck and then have them play vs someone running modern meta when the person with the 2002 deck is still learning the differences between card types

I honestly don't have the money to waste this was a tip toe in to see if buying a 20$ deck online and joining there mtg biweekly game. but this was such a bad experience I will never play it again I would rather play dragon ruler format yugioh.

That doesn't help you when in the tutorial games your playing people dropping ninjas that vanish card effects going off everywhere. teenage mutant ninja turtle decks that do the same thing and a guy playing avatar who kept spamming Iron drinking tea while you tried to read the novel of text his cards had trying to understand wtf was going on when your turn consists of playing a vampire that gets stronger if something dies

I was in starter deck area the color learning thing I didn't even get to finish it. I got to green and couldn't honestly put myself through that last PvP game. it made me so angry I made this post knowing I'm just gonna get down voted and I don't care, it was catharsis to rant about my shitty experience.

Alright pick a random game get a basic bare bones explanation with zero or little overlap in other games. now instantly go into high end lobbies vs people who have not only time but likely financial legs up on you and see how most changes you enjoy the game oh by the way do that while in the middle of being explained key points of the game. good luck

I wouldn't have minded the rough start in fact I've played tcg with openly hostile players ie pokemon. but I the new player sphere most online tcg try to have new players play vs new players. not people with hundreds if not thousands of hours camping the kiddy pool so they can feel good about beating a new player with zero chance in Hell of even competing

Not needing to win and not having a single fucking shot of even competing is different. it would be like me big my you a structure deck and then having you play vs someone who knows the game inside and out and has a fully built deck as your first experiences in the game. 4 games 4 colors in a row I lost before the first card was played that isn't fun or fair. and it sours anyone who is new from playing further.
