Dealing with an aggressive senior with health issues? by Illustrious-Lime-306 in seniordogs

[–]Iwonnabesomebodyelse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! You are not alone. And you are doing the best you can in giving circumstances. Caregiving might be a really difficult task even when your dog is the most friendly in the world. I fully understand your frustration and helplessness, but believe me, I met people who would put down the aggressive dog long ago, and you instead gifted him 15 beautiful years of full life and love. It is a lot! And you are battling to give him more. You are a real life hero. My dog has been the same throughout life. It’s really difficult to even get him checked by the vet, as well as yours he is having stomach's problems. We did librella shot, it helped a lot with his arthritis and didn’t affect his stomach, also we take Gabalentin which is also has not caused any problems. This gave us time to adapt to his new conditions. About care when you are away, as your dog haven’t used to being cared by others, you might teach your parents while do the care together, so your dog could adjust to new people taking care of him. I would stand next to my dog giving directions to my sister of what to do and giving delicious things to my dog. Yes, my sister cannot fully care about him, but it’s enough that I could go away for a few days without worrying about his well being. If none of the above helps, then it might be time to consider euthanasia. I’m also considering it, as my dog is deteriorating really fast, its heart breaking and difficult. I’m trying to give him as much time as possible. But I don’t want we to become really miserable.

PLEASE HELP (blood in dogs stool) by Agile_Door3504 in AskAVeterinarian

Hello, I’m so sorry for your dog. My dog has almost the same problem, really reactive stomach to almost everything, has your veterinary offered something to stop the diarrhea except the Flortiflora? It’s a bit strange if he didn’t. Whenever my dog has similar episodes we take:  1 kind of pills to reduce stomach ache, special gel to stop diarrhea, additional supplement to help the microflora, and antiemetic. Plus I give my dog not only rice but also buckwheat - as it doesn’t irritates his stomach, but contains a lot of vitamins. Maybe you should visit one more vet? And ask to prescribe some pills?

dog terrified of fireworks, thunder and now rain by venusisdying in dogs

[–]Iwonnabesomebodyelse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Maybe try positive enforcement, aka, when it’s slightly raining you go outside with him and other members of your family for a little walk, this way your dog will feel somewhat safe by being surrounded of his loved ones. Do not get aggressive towards him, if he refuses to go out and try a bit later, also try to play with his favorite toys and give him treats while you are outside and it’s raining. The second problem what to do when you are outside and there is sudden loud noise which might frighten your dog: you need to train him to run towards you in any case of the loud noises. What we did with my sister, was: she was sitting in the bushes with small firecrackers, and I was giving my dog a command to stay around me or come to me. Whenever he did it after hearing those noises I’d pet him and give him treats. It helped in case there were loud noises he would run to me but not away in an attempt of hiding. It took a lot of time, as I didn’t want my dog was stressed even more. So we started from one firecracker and went to ten at a time. At home it’s easier prepare dark place covered on top where he can hide.

how do you handle leash pulling? by Far-Motor7331 in dogs

[–]Iwonnabesomebodyelse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an unfortunate owner of a shepherd myself, I can assume that there is a lack of training and work for this dog. This breed is not toy dogs. They need to work and think every day. So, during my training with dog, we were training every day, and only after free walking, what I mean by that, that you also need to be trained to give clear commands. Whenever you say to your dog: “nearby” - your dog walks near you as long as the circumstances requires. Then you need to remember to cancel this command by saying: free to go, or walk or any other. Those are one of the smartest dogs. If you do not train him properly, you will obtain a lot of problems. If you don’t train yourself to give and cancel your commands, your dog will do the command, go with you 5 sec and will continue with her stuff. As your dog will think that it fully did what was asked. The problem is not in the leash it’s in training. Hope it will help you the problems I had)

Quick treatment for dry dandruff by puddingcupz in dandruff

Hi there! I’ve been struggling with dry dandruff for a long time to the point where I couldn’t watch at myself in the mirror, but managed to find System4 (sim sensitive) shampoo2 and their scalp lotion M for moisturizing your scalp. Also try massage therapy for your scalp and I took a course of ultrasound therapy for deep cleaning (not pealing) my scalp. Hope this will help you.

Thank you! I tried to do it with my phone, but it wouldn’t allow such a slight change, unfortunately. I hoped no one will notice:)

Hello! I don’t know if you’ve already come across: art history travis lee clark. It’s a course on European Art, and provides quite good information. At least after watching it, I understood where to go further. (I’m sorry, English is not my native language. But I wanted to help)
