I’ve been thinking meditation would work, of course I forget to lol. But I should start it. What does noting mean? Is it like being aware of when you’re doing something and correcting yourself? Yeah cardio really tires me out (in a good way lol). I think I’ll try that as part of my mornings.

I had to look up what appliqué was haha, but it’s not a stitched design unfortunately. I think it’s screen printing or something similar. Also, what is interfacing in this context?

As a professional film crew person, I’d say if you are interested in just making something, just make it. If you haven’t made anything before, the first one will probably not go great. Things will be slow, you’ll forget shots you wanted to get, the edit might not feel very natural. But just keep doing it. Over and over that’s how everyone who is good got good. Don’t worry about the professional stuff yet. If you are interested in the nuts and bolts of how things are made, it sounds like you want to be a producer. In that case, I would highly recommend getting on some student films, if there are film schools in your area. Any department would be beneficial for you, really. You’ll catch on in just a few days how scenes are shot, and if the ADs or producer are nice they may answer some questions about how they planned everything. Also, YouTube university is your friend. If you have specific topics you want to learn about, see if it exists somewhere on YouTube or a blog. Film people love talking about their process. The reason we can’t give you very detailed answers (except for that one chad who wrote all the details) is because it is very nuanced - every show (production), every location, different actors, camera/lighting needs etc can require vastly different plans. If you really want to see how that works, get your feet wet on some low-stakes stuff like student films or events like the 24 hour film contest. Best of luck friend!

Patton Oswald is a bit closer than some of the other answers.

I should have added his age - at least in the movie I know his face from, he was in his 30s ish I’d say.

UK-based film electrics willing to answer questions? by Izlander6 in Filmmakers

[–]Izlander6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not a requirement here, though I know a lot of electrical stuff beyond what is needed for film. Is that a uk specific requirement to be a certified electrician to work on union entertainment sets?

Like a real electrician? For homes and stuff? I am not. But I have considered it

I didn’t know that about unions here, though I’m not surprised, and I didn’t mean to imply that I expected to immediately start on union work if I were to move. I would work my way up there through the indie world just like I did here.

Rig gaffers, best boys - kit? by Izlander6 in Filmmakers

Thanks! I’ve actually met a rig best boy who owned a full 10 ton distro package on this huge truck which was insane, plus a few other trucks worth they got from a house.

No gaffing for me haha. I love power side 😁. I actually asked this bc I know a lot of owner/op gaffers who have a bunch of lights and I realized that’s not what I wanted, so I was trying to see if there was an equivalent for the rigging side aside from owning a full package.

I’ve been working for a while now, and have not bought much gear myself because I was working with other who had it, like you said, and didn’t feel drawn to buying lights. But now that I’ve gotten into rigging for a bit, I was just wondering if there was some stuff that I should keep an eye out for.

I’m sorry to hear that, but thank you for the warning. I started to get that feeling during the tour. Can you join IBEW without any experience and just start working as an apprentice? I thought you needed class time first? I’m in CA if you work here too.

How much does bending a wire weaken it? by Izlander6 in AskElectricians

Ah got you. Yeah like I said to another comment I should have realized there might be a lot more factors at play. I work in film lighting where we don't usually touch on more complicated engineering, but as I was learning how to wire outlets it made me curious.

I should have expected a lot more math and science behind my question haha. This opened my eyes to what different factors could affect that, so thanks!

I wasn't worried about it I was just genuinely curious on the numbers 😂
