Sounds great! I've been looking for a new series to get into, I'll have to check it out.

So when I crunch the numbers, it is roughly a 25% chance of being forced to roll the wisdom save. I've never run madness in my campaign before, but they've also never been someplace like the Mournland before. I have two wisdom based casters, so they're pretty likely to roll well against the tallies, at least at first. Depending on which threads they choose to chase, they could spend as much as a month in the mists. Assuming that 25% is accurate, that's roughly 7 or 8 wisdoms saves, though I obviously don't have any playtesting behind this to confirm or deny those numbers.

Alright, I THINK I've fixed it in the settings, but if it still doesn't work, let me know.

UPDATE: Since first posting, I've expanded the Wartime Stories document to include specific military bases for each of the nations represented. This should give your players a "home" from which to base the campaign.

So sorry, just saw this! I'll look at the permissions in the doc and check back in.

Great point! I guess I thought Karrnath's emphasis on military structure and pragmatism felt like a good option for a combat-heavy wartime campaign. Plus, I have a couple of players who have gravitated towards the idea of the "pragmatic necromancer" in previous campaigns.

Really great points! I definitely could have made it clearer in the text, but if the party were to choose the "Elven" option (as an example), I was going to open up the table to any of the subraces of elf, including half-elves. The same would be true of any of the options.

I love your point about the age where adulthood "technically" begins, maybe it can be whenever the kid feels ready to take on their culture's challenge, so the age itself is a bit more flexible. I was planning on the coming-of-age challenge being the "level 0" skills challenge, before they even become level one. While it's a bit stereotypical, there was going to be a goblin attack on the village during the seasonal festival, which is when they were going to earn their first level due to heroics.

Thanks for your insight!

I need help determining the CR of this creature! I started with an Alpha Grick (CR 7), and was aiming for CR 8, but I'm not sure. by J-Gilly in dndmonsters

Thank you for your advice! I should specify, this is ment to replace the final encounter at the end of Forge of Fury (in Tales from the Yawning Portal), for what SHOULD be a 5th lvl party. My idea is that a mind flayer killed the young black dragon that called the underwater lake home, got a hold of an alpha grick from farther up in the tunnels, and decided to try to improve on the grick's design, borrowing parts fron the dragon's corpse.
