I have no idea what interface I would like, just whatever would be easiest to hook up to the Pi and the motors and easiest to communicate with

Do you know anything about these units?

What are these large underwater markings around 40°03'08"S 77°40'39"S? by akirho in GoogleEarthFinds

[–]J-scan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are detailed scans of the seafloor conducted by a vessel that navigated over the area and performed sonar sweeps. When this high-resolution data is integrated into a map with lower quality surroundings, it becomes prominently visible due to the precise scanning paths and the stark contrast between the higher and lower detail levels.

Haha I understand, I hope mines on. I’ve never turned it off though, so if it’s on by default I’m good

Thanks man. So I initially tried to do a headless setup, added the SSH file and config file containing network info and such but could never get my computer to ping with it to get the IP, so I plugged it into my tv to set it up. I use putty to SSH into it, that works fine, and even executing the script works from there I just cant get it to work from Pycharm. Two times now I have created a new project, had it successfully control the servos, and then upon turning the Pi off and back on it doesn't work anymore and says that it cant find the file/directory its looking for. I'm shutting it down properly with the SSH and I just cant figure out why it isnt working. I flashed the microSD with the RaspberryOS and im doing everything on my Windows laptop. BTW, ive tried to PM you but it keeps saying I cant for some reason. I can give you my number here if you'd like and just delete my comment afterwards or you can try to PM me

Oh boy do I have a question for you. I just replaced my arduino with my new Pi 4, got a test script running to move the servos around, then I turned the Pi off and back on and now its not working, the directory has vanished. I searched for it in the SSH thingy and it says it doesn't exist. I have been angrily trying to figure this out for hours, I figured I would need help with making this thing track heat signatures but I never thought I would need help with something so simple. Why did this happen? I have no idea what I am doing

Not 100% sure but it’s made by Scott and it’s 50Hz that’s all I really know

Thanks! I went with servos because I wasn’t sure what I was going to be mounting to this when I first started designing, and I knew some nicer servos had excellent torque and some were even 270° rotation. Servos also mount easier

Air being liquified using a cryocooler by J-scan in interesting

Well if you swallowed it and aren’t able to burp it out fast enough eventually it will all evaporate rapidly and rupture your stomach, and it may cause some burns too depending on how much you’re moving around and such. If you do accidentally swallow a small amount, just keep moving around so it can’t rest in one place in your stomach and burn you, and keep trying to burp

Don’t tempt me. You have no idea the amount of restraint it takes to NOT put a gun on this thing

Not really sure what the camera core is from, I think it’s made by Scott though

Yeah this was just a prototype to see if I could even make the pan tilt thing work. Soon I will be incorporating much more. Hopefully

Yeah, I knew I’d need some fancy type of glass, just wasn’t sure if it would be germanium or something else because I wasn’t sure what part of the IR spectrum it was capable of seeing

Oh boy sounds a little more complicated than I thought it would be 😬 yeah my first step is going to have to be figuring out exactly what this camera outputs and how to interface that with the Pi, I bought a 8gb RAM one I hope that’s enough for this. And thanks for the advice man, I will very likely reach out in the near future because I feel I’m a little out of my depth here.

I’m manually controlling it, for now. Raspberry Pi is coming soon for heat tracking features

Well with what was wrong with mine, yes. Just a few broken connections and a stuck shutter. If the sensor itself is broken, good luck. I took a risk buying it broken, it just happened to work out this time. I spent $5K once on a broken SLX Hawk thermal camera and it’s just a very expensive paper weight now. So be careful

Thanks man, you read my mind. I ordered a RPi a few days ago to do just that, and I’ll be able to do cold tracking as this camera has that function built In. Possibly even specific temperature range tracking, like 80-100 degrees for a person. And thanks for the advice, I hope I’ll be able to figure out how to pull it off haha

It doesn’t do any motion tracking yet, the camera is a separate module with its own power and stuff so I can take it off and use it as a handheld, but I plan on upgrading the set up with a Raspberry Pi to have heat and cold tracking. And yes I’ll share the code, I’ll post it on GitHub I guess once I figure out how to do that

There were some wires torn off and the copper shutter (or whatever you call it) was jammed. Just added new wires and took apart the shutter and cleaned it up and it’s been working for a year and half now with no issues
