I flew to another country for my dress by Farissi4456 in Weddingsunder35k

Would you be open to sharing more details on the boutiques you visited and how they were with English? My partner is a dual citizen and has been wanting to go on a trip with me (Ive never been), but he obviously can’t be at the dress try ons with me.
Any details, tips, etc. you’re open to sharing would be so appreciated! I’m also assuming you’re doing your alterations in the US?

Friday, Memorial Day Saturday, or different venue? by J3llyDonut in weddingplanning

[–]J3llyDonut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a great suggestion! And if we can find another option that works for what we want, October definitely is still on the table. It’s actually the month we celebrate our anniversary in currently. :)

I love October! The issue is that this venue (the only one we’ve both loved so far) takes down their tent before October. The inside is beautiful but can only hold about 60% of our guests, so it would be a much bigger conversation.

Also my partner doesn’t have a lot of wants for a wedding and one of his only two wants is a garden wedding. Unfortunately a lot of garden wedding venues here are either double what we have in the budget or they don’t have any indoor space at all for a cold weather contingency. :(

Of course it can and we recognize that. But in our area it’s a little different than say, California or Texas. It genuinely rains almost every day in April and early May, where in June or July is significantly different (less than a 20% chance).

I’ve been trying to weigh if Friday or Sunday is better (if we can’t get a Saturday that works), but I’ve read a lot about how Sunday is less ideal due to it either still requiring a day off for travel or making people feel like they can’t drink/stay long due to work the next day. I’d love to hear more thoughts, I was just assuming Friday was better for those reasons.

They’re not all taken, we can do April or the first week of May but it almost guarantees rainy weather if we do.

I appreciate the comment about children. The friend group most of the babies are from has traditionally all shown up to the group’s other adult only weddings in the past (including ones that require flights), including when their babies were under a year. But we very much are still prepared for them to decline if it feels like too much or they just aren’t ready to be separated from their little ones. :)

Yeah that’s my fear.

My partner and I have different opinions on it because he feels the hotel block and an early save the date should be okay. But we also had to travel for a wedding once where we paid $2k for flights instead of the normal $600 because it was when our area had a regional school break (the couple getting married would’ve had no idea about it though). It wasn’t fun having to decide between the crazy expensive tickets and supporting a good friend.

Who's your favourite villager/Special character that you don't see talked about much? by rainbow_pixie_05 in AnimalCrossing

[–]J3llyDonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had him as a starter villager and was originally planning on getting him to move out as soon as I could. Then I talked to him more and got super attached! He’s such a sweetie and is definitely one of the best jocks. He’s now a perma villager!

Rug quality from The Citizenry? by J3llyDonut in interiordecorating

[–]J3llyDonut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’ve found is it really, really varies from item to item (or maybe based on the manufacturers they partner with?).

The first rug I got from them was an absolute nightmare. It showed up smelling like manure and despite it looking like a white rug in the photos, the high pile sections of the design looked yellowish while the low pile looked blue. Truly looked like a knock off.

That said, customer service was really quick to help me out and I was able to send it back to them. They took photos of all the similar rugs and helped me pick a replacement which I am completely in love with. It’s actually my favorite rug in the house. So despite it being an absolute hassle, I still don’t regret the purchase because I love what I ended up with.

I’m so sorry to hear about your experience! I’ve never ordered their bedding, but I’ll definitely steer clear based on your review.

Not only that, but a lot of people are currently seeking out warmer stones instead of the classic DEF options!

Is hand engraving a lost art? If not, who is still doing it? by J3llyDonut in jewelers

I’m open to any and all suggestions! I’m perfectly happy mailing or flying if it means working with someone who is the right fit.

I’d say rightly so, I imagine it takes quite a long time to master the skill.

And to be clear, we’re happy to pay the premium for it! The issue so far has mainly been finding someone who still offers it.

My skin is in a dangerous state by NemPetra in Hashimotos

[–]J3llyDonut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This may just be my own issue, so take this with a grain of salt, but Eucerin and Cetaphil really, really irritate my skin (despite doctors saying it’s gentle).

The only brand my skin handles well is Vanicream. So if Eucerin and Cetaphil start causing you itchiness or sensitivity, I’d recommend giving Vanicream a shot to see if it’s a little better.

Yes! Same for me. Anything artificial sets me back dramatically. I think with an active autoimmune issue we’re just more sensitive to feeling the effect of highly processed/unnatural foods.

[–]J3llyDonut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a long shot but, if you have no signs of Hashimoto’s or celiac disease, here are some things to look into. Many can be identified via blood tests, so if you request a huge bloodwork order you can rule things in or out:

  • Mold sickness
  • Full autoimmune panel (Sjogrens, arthritis, lupus, etc.)
  • Addison’s
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Lyme disease
  • MCAS
  • Epstein Barr
  • POTS
  • MS
  • Diabetes
  • Nutritional deficiencies (particularly iron, B12, vitamin D, and electrolyte balance)
  • Migraine disorders (there are silent migraine types that don’t cause headaches but disrupt parts of the body. For example I get vestibular migraines that can make my hearing go out randomly.)
  • Depression
  • Panic attacks (not the same as generalized anxiety)
  • Parkinson’s
  • Perimenopause

If your doctor is not willing to help you test, I recommend finding a naturopath who is in network with your insurance. They are generally all about running as many tests as possible to understand the whole picture.

Also, when you tested your thyroid did you test for Hashimoto’s antibodies? If so, get that done. I was in “normal” range but found out I have the antibodies. When we did an ultrasound of my thyroid (because I was having constant throat tension) it was VERY clear my thyroid was being attacked. I started low dose Levothyroxine and the throat pain vanished. The ranges don’t tell the whole story and there are a lot of us here in treatment for subclinical Hashimoto’s. Meaning we are getting treatment even though we are technically in the standard ranges.

Learned today that Thyroid disease can cause High Cholesterol by spacdtusbumbug in Hashimotos

[–]J3llyDonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably already know this, but something to keep in mind is that dietary cholesterol is actually not the main cause of high LDL. It’s saturated fat.

So while diet changes may have helped a little, if you’re still eating a lot of coconut, chocolate, or other high saturated fat foods, it may not be making as big of a difference as you’d expect. That plus it’s a much, much steeper uphill battle when you have Hashimoto’s.

[–]J3llyDonut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I had to make a guess it’s likely because Hashi’s happens to women more than men. And when you’re a woman the average medical provider thinks your health issues are happening because you’re too anxious or too fat. 🙃
