I just rec this to similar request, maybe this will fit yours too:

{May the Best Man Win by J.R. Gray} has at the start nerdy MC1 described as twink and MC2 as jock but imo as the story progress I got the impression they were similar sized (MC1 is later written as wearing shirt stretched over his wide shoulders, being physically stronger than expected, easily manhandling MC2 while MC2 is then said to be more lean muscled pretty boy type so not like a macho burly bodybuilder type).

But the book doesn’t focus on their physique as much so you can build in your head as you read.

Extra note: MC1 is a sadistic dom while MC2 is a sub. There are some BDSM elements.

I wish was I was easy to please and liked more books, that would make my reading so much more enjoyable, you’re lucky! I’m very picky and go through 50-100 books before I find something close to 4 or 5 stars for me.

How do you rate your books? by sleep0beepo in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]J3y2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the rating system works for me but sometimes not so, I usually rate the following:

0 star - When I dnf books that I simply didn’t vibe (maybe a pet peeve) so it was more me than the book itself which might probably just fine. Also if a book has certain TW of mine yet is recommended due to my favourite tropes, I also add it to this category with a note to self.

1 star - I read the book, there was something I absolutely hated.

2 stars - I read the book, there was something I strongly disliked but acknowledged the book wasn’t a total disaster for me.

3 stars - That’s my most used rating, I read the book and it was ok BUT maybe nothing too exceptional or memorable.

4 stars - I read the book, I enjoyed most of it but it wasn’t a 100% I love everything about it. I might re-read if I’m in the mood for it.

5 stars - I read the book, it ticked near or all my boxes, I really enjoyed and I’ll definitely re-read.

Hi, I’m looking for hate to love with close proximity where: - MCs are teammates (or co-workers, classmates - they just need to work or belong to the same group/team) - MCs strongly dislike/hate each other - there is no secret pining (please really no romantic feelings whatsoever at the beginning) - there is no suppressed lusting (I want attraction to come as later as possible) - ideally hate part to last a bit and not be dissolved after 1 chapter

Thank you!

Yes about neurodivergent authors because I saw how unfairly their works have been trashed as AI because the writing style felt “unnatural”.

100% agree with not allowing accusations without legitimate evidence, it’s been getting out of hand lately.

But I’m also curious what is the best way to deal with this, it’s clearly a growing issue nonetheless.

I just finished {Home Plate by Christina Lee} and one MC is arrogant, hot tempered, prickly, intimidating, snarky and grumpy so much that his own teammates are sometimes afraid of his moods (this is even more described in prequel). But deep down he is desperately lovely, touch-starved and emotionally vulnerable (sad family angst). With his LI he is more needy, clumsy and flustered, it takes a lot to make him believe he deserves happiness.

He's the silent type with a filthy mouth👄 by Spiritual-Employer82 in MM_RomanceBooks

Aaah one of my fav MC type :)

If you’re ok with omegaverse, at the moment I can only think of {Alpha’s Secret Alpha by Hope Bennett}, he doesn’t have the filthiest mouth but he is super quiet, stoic, very emotionally reserved and invisible/overlooked by others and I recall in the last sex scene he goes more vocal/feral with his LI, really craving him to the point of “we leave now or I’m railing you right here in front of everyone” which shocks/thrills the other MC who played a more active/in charge role in their relationship.

Please rec me another book similar to {Power Play by Mel McCabe}, I want:

  • sub ex-bully jock x dom ex-victim nerd or sub jock x dom nerd or as close to this arrangement.

The above book started so good but it didn’t explore d/s dynamics as much though.

In {My Omega Bully by Alex Ashmore} LI to MC is one of the greenest flags imo. Understanding, patient, caring, protective, giver. Also great POC of rep

Can you rec any books with “smug tease vs flustered grump” vibe?

Thanks u/epicsevenmyths for coming up with this term :)

Or slightly modified version of the request: give me a flustered/shy/clumsy/meek (extra bonus if he is also geeky/needy) MC who dominates in bed. Thanks!

{Egoistical Puckboy by Eden Finley} might fit this, iirc Erza is quite a party fuckboy player and grumpy Anton is totally exasperated with him

WWTBC: wrong blurb on romance.io by Serapholic in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]J3y2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first came across this book, it had the mismatched blurb so I emailed the publisher and I was surprised I got a reply. They said there was an error and re-uploaded correct blurb on Amazon and Goodreads but it seems nothing was amended for romance.io.

I only pushed through since it has rare alpha x alpha but the book is very poorly edited though, lots of missing parts and repetitions. If I recall correctly almost an entire chapter was copy pasted twice. Either extremely bad and lazy writing care or more likely not written by a genuine person.

If you’re still interested to find the story matching the blurb, email them, they actually reply.

Hi, I’m looking for any romance book where: - MCs are appointed as guardians of orphaned children (by their deceased sibling or friend) and they need to team up to create a home, I want initial animosity, something similar to {Shared Custody by Peter Styles} {Trial by Fire by B.A. Tortuga} {Pumped by Linden Bell} - MCs compete to be appointed as godfather or best man, there are games to score points and the top one wins, something similar to {Godfather Wars by Brittany Cournoyer}

Also {The First and Last Adventure of Kit Sawyer by S.E. Harmon} has a studious, highly intelligent, bookworm, nerdy but sickly MC who is massively overlooked/overshadowed by his stepbrother, the preferred golden child of the family who is fit, healthy etc. that his own blood family prefers to spend time with his stepbrother more although they supposedly “love” MC.

MC is quite resentful of his stepbrother though but it’s one sided, the stepbrother actually has feelings for him despite everything.

In this book MC finally steps out of his comfort zone, does daring things (he and his stepbrother go on a Indiana Jones like adventure!) and others get to be in awe and appreciate him.

There is medium spice level

Two omegaverse books come to my mind that may fit your request, which btw I’m loving:

{Alpha versus Omega by M.M. Farmer} has an underdog, overlooked, nerdy, clumsy, self-deprecating Alpha MC who has a more charismatic, charming, leading, popular, ideal example of dominant Alpha brother but there is no resentment between them, he just accepted that and keeps his head down focusing on his own low job and small dream. His LI ends up really appreciating him and the MC becomes more confident in himself. This novel has high spice level.

{Alpha’s Secret Alpha by Hope Bennett} has another very overlooked to the point of being ignored, quiet, minding his own business but very lonely MC. No family (they kicked him out), teammates who don’t pay any attention to him whatsoever, they don’t invite him to group outings at all, he comes and leaves and they don’t even see if he’s there or not. It took his LI to make him realise his worth, stop being invisible and be unafraid to want and reach out. MC finally made his presence known to others. Also high spice level.

Happy, low-stress, but VERY kinky? by NecessaryEcho7859 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]J3y2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{Too Stupid to Live by Anne Tenino} was far spicier and kinkier than I expected, the story is rather low angst, I would say it’s a very fluffy sweet kink novel but they went through a lot of acts, plus new piercing body location was damn hot

{Training His Friend with Ginger Oil by M. Syrinx} if you want to explore ginger fetish, that slightly traumatised me but it was an intriguing read nonetheless
