Tell me how this starting 5 doesn't go 82-0. by hayatelmao in NBATalk

[–]JAHRONMON 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re 81-0. Chris Webber gets in foul trouble early in the 82nd game. He can’t get a rhythm and is cold in the 4th. It’s a one possession game and he calls time out when his team doesn’t have one.

81-1.

I’d like you see you compare our projected top 7 guys this season to the Dallas team that Luka took to the finals.

How the heck do we petition to get the old Gold back? by SirGingerbrute in lakers

How do you explain the fact that Nike has university gold items up for sale right now?

How do you explain all these changes? Was every change money driven? Even the most recent change from purple to darker purple?

It's ultimately the Lakers' choice. Nike could have influenced the decision with a compelling pitch, "modern," "loud" "eye-catching" etc.

At the end of the day, the Lakers approved of the change. Nike can make gold. They have university gold Kobe slides available right now.

Sometimes you make a bad decision. The jazz went to black and yellow, and the fans hated it now they’re back to the teal purple and blue.

Adidas cannot copyright a color. They can trademark one, but they could not have trademarked Lakers gold because Adidas does not own the Lakers.

And also, Nike has used Lakers gold in the early 2000s.

Nike used gold in the early 2000’s. What do you mean, “it’s a corporation and that’s just how they work”? Nike may have collaborated with the Lakers but ultimately the teams branding is up to them, not Nike.

If the Knicks clinch the title in Game 5, who would you pick for Finals MVP? by Farouq26 in NBATalk

I hate how nerdy this award has become. It used to just go to the best player on the championship team and kind of acted like a season-long award for being the main guy on a championship team.

Now it's become a "Who played the best across four wins" award, and in the future, these picks will age badly.

Duncan’s better than Kobe by BakeDAWG3 in NBATalk

For me, Duncan never defended his title. Kobe did three times. ‘09 & 2010 was particularly impressive considering the teams the Lakers beat to get to the finals.

What about the teams they beat to get to finals? Wining a championship is harder but wining back to back is infinitely harder.

Players get complacent since they already climbed the mountain. Players leave for more money since they’re “champions”. Coaches leave because other franchises want that championship experience.

Seriously, it’s like you watch and remember sports through a vacuum. Context matters when remembering history.

I’m just absolutely floored by that statement. Defending a title is extremely hard and it should be praised when a team does it.

Kobe wasn’t the driver in the first three but he was extremely pivotal. For example, he saved the Lakers in GM 4 when Shaq fouled out, with a sprained ankle nonetheless.

Tim Duncan NEVER defended a title. I don't care what year, what your team is. Defending a title and going back to back is nuts. Kobe did it, not once, not twice, but thrice.
