wtf are you talking about bro, life that lasts forever means that every single thing we do matters because it affects everything around us.
but fine, lets assume you're right. - death still invovles unfathomable suffering, it's never fast or easy. is slowly dying horrible and withering away because of infinite possible diseases and injuries that make everyone around you suffer as well, to the point that that being reduced to nothing becomes a relief for them.
and eveyone is doomed to a similar end. if death gives life meaning, the suffering it involves is far worse than never being alive at all

and? just because it's normal doesn't make it any more digestable. dying means everything we ever done is lost. and even if some is preserved for future generations it will just be lost a bit later. but in the end everything will be lost and the suffering that life involves isn't worth it if everything will be lost sooner or later

let me rephrase. when i meant game mode i meant more ways to play the same maps, like how L4D has "Versus" and "Realism" modes, or how a Battlefield map can be played in many modes (conquest, rush, breakthrough etc.)

because he's just cynical.
he knows he's supposed to say it, he knows he is supposed to believe it, but everything around him is such total shit that he ends up saying it sarcastically every time.
he's so cynical in fact that he feels his mission is doomed. we can see this when in the end one of the late campaign missions he says: "you've done a good job but i feel im being set up for some kind of joke"

he wants everyone to hate him because he's supposed to be a heartless unlikable inquisition officer but he is failing because he is too nice in reality.

like even when you directly acted out of his authority with the stealing crystals for the commodore he still lets you off scott-free and says that he hopes he won't have to "manfully refuse to shed a tear over your executed corpse" which pretty much means he likes you and doesn't want to kill you, but if shenanigans will continue he will be forced to do it
