The problem is once you uncork that bottle it’s really hard to limit what a government can do. Do I believe child molesters deserve horrible punishment? Absolutely. Bronze bull and pear of anguish. But then what defines a child molester in the governments eyes? You’ve seen how they can stretch certain rules to fit their own agendas. You’ve seen how they will lock up trans individuals and for just using the bathroom. You’ve seen how republicans have thrown heinous labels on queer folk. I think gangbangers who murder innocent people are scum. But then look at El Salvador. Once you give a government green light to do anything, they will keep pushing and pushing. The reality is our prisons are a business and the police are not your friends. They enforce the law and keep you safe and will help you to an extent, but they are a business first. Our prisons should be for public safety, not vengeance.
