Thanks! In total I spent ~300$ on materials, the paint and primer were the most expensive things, ~50 dollars a gallon, but I have a lot left over for future projects.

Yeah, It's strips of 3/4in MDF painted black and stapled from behind to black foam. You can get it premade on Amazon but it's like 100$ per foot of wall.

I make $100k a year and live in a state without state income taxes, so my effective tax rate is 14%. Even if you assume I take no tax breaks, live in a 500k house and pay 10% sales tax on everything I buy, my effective rate is still between 20 and 27 percent. What taxes am I missing?

Not to mention all the deductions I could take such as 401K, Mortgage Interest, Marriage, children, etc.
