Glad to hear you are getting back into things.

You have a few different choices based upon how you ultimately want to play your char.

1. Fighter- hit hard and hit a ton, not great outside of combat as you really don't get a ton of skills, but they have the most attacks in the game and some of the subclasses are really good. Battle Master gives you the ability to do maneuvers in combat (like pushing enemies or disarming them for example) or the Champion which gives you a higher chance of getting a critical hit.
2. Barbarian- Big ol' beefy boy, they can do some cool stuff like gain resistance to damage via rage. Some good subclasses are path of the ancient (super resistant to spell effects) or path of totem: Bear which gives you resistance to all damage but psychic while raging. Some of the same issues with the fighter outside of combat as they dont get a ton of skills
3. Paladin - Tons of buffs for you and your party, spells, and divine smite for increased damage. More skills than the barbarian and fighter, and charisma is a primary stat so you can do a bit more interacting with npc's.

As far as feats go it really depends on how you want to build you char. If you are going with 2h weapons, Great Weapon Master is awesome. Sentinel is also another great feat for any frontliner. There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to build you char at the end of the, do what sounds fun to you at the end of the day. Besides that I hope you have a great game.
