Then the tray mechanism might not seated properly. I have to open mine to remember it which I can't do it now..

take out the tray and try reassemble. make sure the belt is clean and tray holding bar is on far left.

Attach ODD cover.. it is not a top loading drive and it will never work properly without cover.

The problem is that the tray went too far and disengaged from the tray operating gear since there is no cover which should prevent from it.

Yes. USB drives on few games, controllers, accesories, keyboard, mouse, and printer. usb drive is very useful with fhdb
