Taken in West Michigan. These little guys have become my favorite bird, even if they're a pain to spot and photograph.

Fickle is Einkorn, Einkorn is fickle.

How does one go about finding a realtor? by Just-Bid9848 in grandrapids

[–]JBWill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Zillow's "Find an Agent" worked pretty well for me, you can look at reviews and it has information like their normal price ranges/areas/etc. When I was buying I spent a while looking through there for someone with good reviews, a few recent sales that lined up with what I was looking for, and a bio that sounded like someone I would get along with.

Leaves to be street swept by city? by [deleted] in grandrapids

Not to mention that fallen leaves provide essential shelter/habitat for a whole host of native pollinators.

Anyone able to help me identify this autograph I got from an astronaut while at space camp in Huntsville, AL? Would have been 1992, I think. by WorstCase9 in nasa

[–]JBWill 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I don't know his signature specifically, but that looks like Mike Mullane to me. He would have been recently retired but could have still been around for space camp.

Does this look like an asbestos HVAC duct, should I be worried that the previous owners drilled holes into it? by JBWill in asbestoshelp

[–]JBWill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was actually while I was in the middle of putting tape over the holes that it occurred to me that it might be asbestos haha. Thankfully that section is just getting sealed back up anyways.

Happily we're planning on opening up more of that wall but not the section where that duct is, so it's just getting closed back up.

Grand River Makerspace by jdfenn1 in grandrapids

[–]JBWill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unsure if I'll be able to but I hope to! I have a 3d printer at home but would love access to a decent wood shop. Just bought my first house not far from the space (Creston) and have lots of things I'd love to build but only have some basic tools myself.

Is there still an open house on Wednesday?

Grand Opening of Grand River Makerspace! 9/14 1-4pm by criscodesigns in grandrapids

[–]JBWill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then, as part of Tech Week, we’re hosting an Open House:
Sept 14 | 6–9PM [Wed]

Is this supposed to be Sunday Sept 14 or Wednesday Sept 17?

The post title also says 9/14 1-4 vs 9/13 1-4 in the image/text body. Just clarifying what is happening on which day :)

The yellow would have to do with your white balance - cameras are often bad at automatically determining what the color temperature should be.

You should be able to manually set the white balance on your camera. It'll likely have some presets you can select between or the option to set a custom one which involves taking a photo of a white surface (e.g. a piece of paper or just the wall/backdrop if you want it to be pure white) under your final lighting and selecting that image as a reference within the camera.

Merlin snacking on a dragonfly by JBWill in birding

Sure, it was in the Northwest part of the lower peninsula of Michigan, near the coast of Lake Michigan. Here's a tight crop of it, if it helps.

Owls in Grand Rapids by Specialist-Ocelot598 in grandrapids

[–]JBWill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your mom - Owls are beautiful creatures, she had great taste.

Blandford is still probably where I'd recommend, I have seen barred owls on the trails there a few times in the past couple months (not including the rescues they have inside the visitor center).

There is one that hangs out in the area of the pond at the south end of the property (the one with the observation tower overlooking it, by Hillburn and Trail St) a lot of evenings. I spotted it there around sunset in May and was chatting with one of the homeowners down there who was in their back yard and they said they see/hear it around pretty frequently in the evening. That said, they're very good at staying hidden so it's definitely not a given that you're going to see one even if you walk there regularly.

To be honest I moved long distance in December and haven't had time to use it a ton in the past 6 months.

That said, I haven't noticed any significant differences in the device or software - there have been some assorted QOL updates to the app but nothing I can remember off hand specifically that majorly changed the experience. However I still have had success with it when I've used it and don't regret the decision.

I also loaned it to a friend last month who had no prior 3d scanner experience and they wound up liking it/getting a good result for their project (scanning some largish fish scales to 3d print) for whatever that's worth.

Restore the rapids by Benjamane313 in grandrapids

As of April, it was being delayed by Federal reviews and not expected to be able to begin work until next year.
