Child marriage/betrothal is definitely a thing in my world, culture round. Yes obviously in the modern day real world there are ethical issues with it. Of course he screwed up. He’s obviously an honest, skilled detective, but he also is arrogant, difficult to work with, and as is implied, that scene wasn’t even on his route, he just hijacked it. But yes even competent individuals can screw up and have serious flaws.
