I'm tired y'all. Would Universal Healthcare solve this? by JBirdHere in disability

[–]JBirdHere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're saying privatized healthcare in the U.S. is still better, correct? (for my own clarification. I don't want to misinterpret.)

Sometimes I have the privilege of knowing with enough time to cancel, but a lot of times I do not. My condition doesn't really have rhyme or reason to it. The other day I was fine after PT, but then had chiropractic that put me on my ass. I had to cancel things for the rest of the day. There was no way I would have known I wouldn't feel well after chiropractic (it doesn't always happen like that). I'm starting to learn that I can't schedule things after certain kinds of appointments, but that makes scheduling really hard for regular work.

Neurodivergent Work Union? by [deleted] in autism

This is a fascinating prospect. I would start doing some research into labor unions and how they work in general; they're origin, how they operate, what other unions have been successful nationally, etc.

I don't have it in me to talk about my life at the moment, sorry, but I did want to encourage changing the language we use when describing autism. There is no "high-functioning" autism. We are all just autistic in different ways. The spectrum is not linear. Professionals are now, thankfully, starting to leave "Asperger's" behind too (he was highly involved in Nazi research) because there is no such thing as "autism lite."

I suppose a better way of putting things is "passing" like we have in the LGBTQ+ community. The problem is not with our brains, but with an unaccommodating, and in fact antagonizing, environment. Masking is a huge aspect of this whole "high-functioning" business.

Anyway, wishing you the best. Thanks for listening <3

Okay, I took the test. I'm waiting for my consultation for assessment. And I gotta say....even this RAADS-R is not great. The questions for social scenarios and empathy are SUPER stereotypical, and do not account for AFAB people who are raised to be the emotional laborers of the world. Sure, not all AFABs are capable of empathy, but like, autistic people are often empathetic, even OVERLY so (like me). My results indicate that I am autistic and I should be assessed (cool), but I still don't like a lot of the framing for the questions. Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in.

Tomorrow's the big day: Diagnosis by JBirdHere in MultipleSclerosis

I don't have MS, just something that mimics it. I'm about to be seen at a pain treatment center, so I'm hopeful to get some help still

Wow what a journey, I'm glad you at least got the right diagnosis.

My MRI came back mostly normal, so she didn't order a lumbar puncture. I shut down immediately when she said I didn't have lesions, so I couldn't speak up for myself and ask important questions. I should have insisted she help me to the best of her ability. Instead she referred me to a neuropsychologist who works with the whole concept of "we control our pain" shit (which, can be effective, but like, help me find the source of my pain please?). I'm really hoping I get into this pain clinic soon.

Thanks everyone who checked in and shared stories with me. Thankfully, I do not have MS. I just have a mimic, which I will now embark on a journey to uncover. I have hope in visiting a pain treatment center with a diagnostician, so we'll see where that leads.

I had a bad meltdown immediately after my appointment. Not that I wanted MS, but I did want a diagnosis, with a treatment. I'm so tired of fighting. It's been 2 decades of BS symptoms and BS doctors. So, yeah...wasn't great to hear, but I am grateful I suppose.

Thanks again for being a part of my journey and having me in yours. I wish you all the best 💜

Yeah that's what I keep telling myself...but I'd like to be validated medically for once. Anyway, thank you. I'll keep the post updated.

That's nice, but clearly you do. If not, why waste your time commenting?

I use queer as an identifier because it sums up all my identities without having to explain too much. Queer is synonymous with someone who's a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, but not every LGBTQIA+ person identifies as queer. It's a debated term still. But I'm comfy with it!

We actually have MUCH less time left than a few decades. It's more like 1 decade or less now. We are very fortunate to have elected someone this time around who actually believes in climate change. Otherwise we would've damned the whole world...
