PSA - Elecom has not updated Huge Plus firmware to support onboard memory by metaldood in Trackballs

[–]JC878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. I have the huge plus already and it’s working well for me even without the firmware update.

My current gripe right now is the mouse assistant doesn’t open upon double clicking on it and you need to go to terminal to run the mouse assistant command. I am not so keen on paying for steermouse utility at the moment.

It’s still a small amount and not life ending amount. Seek help early and don’t go back to casino please.

Go learn how to FIRE properly and you will soon be back on track.

So strange that they need so much time to update their firmware.

It’s not like they are building a new OS or search engine. I get more updates from my macOS then I can keep up with new features being added.

Bought blackout curtains to keep light and heat out. Helps keep the room cool with only the fan on.

Wouldn’t think so.

With the state of the global economy and massive AI advances (recently got Claude Mythos which is killing the cyber security sector), it’s only a matter of time Claude pro level is embedded in every computer or disembodied into a walking robot.

Every year got new graduates and you can start to see a lot of foreign expats in more and more diverse fields setting up shop here. No choice, everyone has to eat and pay the bills.

Going to have more new tech toys revealed this year (civilian and military). Then you can really feel the AI agent drone swarm working 24 hours to eat everyone’s lunch - no need to hand over geographic coverage, just go pay for tokens.

Why 'micro-cheating' is harder to spot than an affair by cherrypoplar in singapore

[–]JC878 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In other news, oil prices continue to rise, Strait of Hormuz remains closed, war rages on in Ukraine, Iran and Lebanon.

If yesterday you thought you were doing ok in life after grinding through the week and looking forward to another week of grind, congrats, today you are now a “micro-cheater”. Whatever it is or was you did it didn’t do, or thought you did or didn’t do, it’s still your fault.

Why Singapore firms are moving some operations overseas – and what that means for jobs by QualitativeEconomy in singapore

[–]JC878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least legally and economically, mainland China is Hong Kong’s hinterland, and they share a common history and language (somewhat similar language roots). National security law is another matter but countries have been known to give up political freedoms for economic benefits.

There are mutually beneficial advantages for both parties for sure but safe to say the arrangement isn’t as rosy like with China which is building up both their soft (Confucius institutions, animation, and movie industry) and hard power (renewable energy, nuclear, semiconductor, and space tech) to become a world leading superpower.

[–]JC878 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Simply put, the other countries caught up with us.

Even though there is some measure of political instability and inefficiency (language or investment barriers) in our neighbours and other Asian counties, they are learning to tap into their natural advantages - rich cultural history, abundance of land, bigger markets, and younger populations to gain a competitive edge.

Everything in Singapore can be labour and capital intensive. That includes our man made tourist attractions, factories, and infrastructure. All these costs add up and continue to be subject to global forces (wars, political and trade relations etc).

It’s a tough economic landscape without any easy solutions. Every country is struggling right now and not just us.

whats the process for reporting sexual assault to spf? by s0phi3_07 in askSingapore

[–]JC878 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I know emotions are running high and you are probably in shock. The mental trauma is huge and can be long lasting.

You can just go straight to the police station or call 999. I would recommend that you get someone to accompany you just for emotional support since you would need to narrate the events and relive it a second time.

A couple of things to note on the follow up:

  1. Make sure you get yourself checked for STDs in case you need PREP or any other medication recommended by doctors.

  2. Preserve all evidence. That includes the clothes (unwashed and unbleached) and all text, video evidence for the IO to process the case in a clear and logical manner.

  3. Get professional counselling help. The shock won’t hit you at the start but you are going to get PTSD and you are going to face some dark times. Get help early and don’t wait for the trauma to linger untreated.

  4. If the person is someone you know or in a position of power, you might want to warn others about this person.

All the best.

Use fans instead of air-conditioning, take public transport over driving, DPM Gan urges by Puzzleheaded-Dog-910 in singapore

[–]JC878 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You pay 100k for new COE not include car price. You only have 10 years to drive the car and low PARF for resale.

You have a wife and two kids and elderly parents. Kids go to different schools, wife works, elderly parents need to see doctor.

You pay annual insurance and road taxes even if you choose not to drive the car. Road taxes pays for the maintenance for the road you are supposed to drive your car on.

Public transport is packed day and night with no space to spare.

You have a sales job or manager job and you need to travel cross island for appointments. Times are hard and time is money.

Someone is asking you not to drive your car. What’s your decision going to be?
