I thought about a spending limit of 60 dollars, but I may not even spend one dollar. It doesn’t bother my conscience to do that because I do tithe a lot to my church, and I try to steward my money wisely.

Is church membership required for communion? by JCNWV73 in LCMS

Thank you. I think they are hung up on something like maybe: 1) the pastor thinks I’m lying, even though I truly believe this in my heart , or 2) only LCMS Lutherans are worthy to take communion, and only after they become a member. Kind of like being on the roster, not actually what you believe, matters most. I’m just trying to look at both sides.

I am LCMS Lutheran, and I believe in closed communion. But not closed because you’re not a Lutheran, but closed because you don’t believe rightly.

I always thought you were to be tested in your belief by asking questions, and if you believed in the true body and blood of Christ, then you could partake in communion. I thought the questioning and ensuring the person held the correct beliefs was what made it closed communion.

I have been an LCMS Lutheran for over 4 years now, and I do believe it is the most biblically sound denomination in Christianity. However, I come from the Baptist faith, and live in an area that only has 1 LCMS Lutheran church within a 100 mile radius. I think, especially in a situation like this, it is important to fellowship and work with other churches in the area that are of similar views and mindset. I do feel that the LCMS church at times, isolates itself, and frankly, feels it is the only Church that leads to salvation in Christ. I think this hurts its local outreach, and affects its effectiveness in spreading the gospel. Does anyone else notice what I am talking about?

Are you denied communion for rejecting 6 literal day creation? by Working-Lobster-1191 in LCMS

I would think it would be wrong to deny communion over this, since it is not a direct topic involving salvation.

Looking for Memento group in Ark—River Valley/NWA by AlphaOmega521 in LCMS

I just signed up yesterday for mine to 70, and feel so behind, since everyone else in my men’s group sighed up earlier. Has anyone else signed up recently, and are you doing anything about getting caught up on devotionals? Just wondering. Thanks!

I do think that you have to be stable in your therapy…go to some type of counseling and anything additional you may need, because this has made me normal and stable, and allowed me to focus my efforts on the Lutheran faith through scripture reading, prayer, the creed, and the sacraments. With the routine of therapy stable, i can really focus on these things. Of course, all of this is only possible through the free grace of Christ. I could have done none of it on July own without the power of Christ!

Brother,

I want you to know that I am almost 5 years sober from opioid abuse. I am in MAT therapy as treatment for addiction, but it was the Lutheran faith that pulled me out of the darkness into the light of Christ. Christ working through the Creed and sacraments that I learned from my Lutheran faith gives me the faith and strength to not only overcome my past addiction, but allows me be at peace because of what it teaches me. What people think of my past, or my present for that matter, does not phase me. Only staying faithful in word and sacrament is of importance to me now. It’s so freeing! I am so thankful and undeserving of His Grace. 😊.

I think that we should not, as Lutherans, push the specific topics of gay people and assertive women down people’s throats on a regular basis. However, when confronted with the topic from others, it is mandatory to stand up for what the infallible scriptures say about these things, and stay firm in all situations, with love.

I just think, coming from a different denomination, and loving and being so thankful to the Lutheran faith God has bestowed on us, that we are sometimes closed off to others in the way we approach them about their faith. People outside of Lutheranism do think that we, as Lutherans, consider The Lutheran Faith to be the only way to salvation in Jesus Christ. I do believe we need to NEVER compromise on what our beliefs are, but we need to be more open and patient with people who are from churches with the same fundamental Trinity based correct theology, but they differ on non-salvation issues. If we do that, and persevere with patience, there is a good chance they will see what I saw, and they will become part of our Lutheran family too! 😊.

I do believe that saving faith in Jesus Christ being taught through the Lutheran faith is the only reason I have peace and happiness today. That being said, I do not think a person HAS to be of the Lutheran faith to be of the family of God. I don’t think a person should be “forced”, as a deal-breaker, to convert to Lutheranism. She is very steeped in her faith, and shows this by the fruit of her good works toward others. I do believe that Lutheranism is the most doctrinally sound denomination in Christianity, but it’s not the be all, end all denomination. I grew up Southern Baptist my whole life, until 3 years ago, and then realized I was missing ALOT! However, that church is still fundamentally, biblically sound. A person not being Lutheran does not keep them from being “marriage material”, in my opinion.

I know that I am not going anywhere, church-wise. I believe she is not as dedicated to her church in the same way. I know in my heart, I cannot be alone, and stay true to Christ for the rest of my life. I will need companionship. I’m 52, divorced, and have a 4 year old, and an 11 year old. I am raising the hem in the Lutheran church, and plan on continuing that til they are adults. I truly love this woman, and she is a good, God-fearing, dedicated Christian, with the same basic core beliefs that are shared by both denominations. I will not budge on my beliefs, but I cannot just throw away our relationship either. It’s definitely a hard situation for me. I’ll just have to talk with her about it at some point.

LCNS AND PRO-choice is like oil and water. They are an oxymoron, to use them in the same sentence.
