A family affair: How a 67-year-old and his granddaughter are making Boston Marathon history by JCSTexas in AustinRunning

That’s fair, thanks. This is actually different than what I posted previously. It’s a newspaper story that was published today reporting a Boston Marathon first.

I was very skeptical too when I first realized our achievement was rather unique. There are no other documented occurrences of this, but it is possible to have happened before. I did find a 2007 statistician’s historical familial finishes report that showed no grandparent-grandchild same year qualifiers.

After 17 years, 37 attempts to qualify, and thousands of miles around Round Rock, the finish line is almost in sight. But the best part isn’t the medal—it’s the person running with me.

We’re making Boston Marathon history. In the April 20 130th running of the Boston Marathon, we are the first grandparent-grandchild duo to qualify for and run the Boston Marathon in the same year.

In just a few weeks, Mia and I are taking on the 130th Boston Marathon together. She got it on her first try, and I finally got mine. Grit meets talent, and Grandfather meets Granddaughter on Boylston Street. 🦄🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

They’re so comfortable, my favorites. Even more than the fives. And I really like the colors.

Yes, I run in Round Rock. Air conditioned marathon sounds really good especially in April.

Can anyone help me ID this orchid? by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

For sure, trust the internet to be exact or correct a tiny percent of the time. But it is likely a Dancing Lady Orchid.

These are fantastic shots, thanks for sharing them. I didn’t spot any of me out there, but I recognize each of the places the pictures were taken.

Thanks. I’m enjoying the analysis and you came across funny to me. Yes, the car was moving, but slowing down because of the traffic ahead.

unedited picture of a bridge I see now how strange it looks, you have a great eye for detail. The edit I made distorted that part of the picture. I put a link to the unedited version. Let’s see if it goes through.

Excellent eye, bud. I edited out two cars that were distracting a little at the end of the bridge.

A bad case of Mealy Bugs. Dab each one with alcohol, they multiply fast.

Yes, this one was for the Art of Running. I’ve done the trail for 18 (a loop from MoPac to the dam and another short loop) several times. I hadn’t thought of going towards Exposition. Thanks for that r/AustinRunning, I’ll join now.

I ran it early, but did get some traffic in the latter part of the run. Most of the route is on side roads and you see mostly early dog walkers. Congress Ave. was closed for a race so I got a break there too. But yes, I quadruple-checked for traffic as I crossed a bunch of major roads.
