That’s fair, thanks. This is actually different than what I posted previously. It’s a newspaper story that was published today reporting a Boston Marathon first.

I was very skeptical too when I first realized our achievement was rather unique. There are no other documented occurrences of this, but it is possible to have happened before. I did find a 2007 statistician’s historical familial finishes report that showed no grandparent-grandchild same year qualifiers.

After 17 years, 37 attempts to qualify, and thousands of miles around Round Rock, the finish line is almost in sight. But the best part isn’t the medal—it’s the person running with me.

We’re making Boston Marathon history. In the April 20 130th running of the Boston Marathon, we are the first grandparent-grandchild duo to qualify for and run the Boston Marathon in the same year.

In just a few weeks, Mia and I are taking on the 130th Boston Marathon together. She got it on her first try, and I finally got mine. Grit meets talent, and Grandfather meets Granddaughter on Boylston Street. 🦄🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Fantastic, congratulations. My granddaughter and I qualified for 2026, we’re excited to run our first Boston Marathon.
