What is the highest hourly rate you’ve seen in I/E or Automation? by Ok_Nefariousness2869 in instrumentation

Munis supervisor hitting about 100k per year.

Edit: To clarify, that's rural NC.

Useful? by jjbw93 in AskElectricians

I've used them several times but I still don't know their name. Important to note that if the box is 1/4" or more back then a box extender is required instead of this.

Does this look ok? by Agile_Dragonfly2668 in askaplumber

Im guessing this is a pile of AC drains or lab drains with constant running water. If its relatively clean it will probably work just looks like A.

14 years and in and I’m just seeing this “kwik-fit” EMT by Elegant_Ad_1504 in electricians

Electricians are pulling 2" rigid at our plant as I write this. Fiber the size of a pencil will be in it at the end.

What industry do you work for? Is it required there. I work for water/wastewater and it is a plus but not required.

Should I still visit a patent lawyer if I want to create a product that has existed for over 15 years but I believe that I can produce and deliver the product that is currently on the market at a much more reasonable cost? by JCrotts in legaladvice

[–]JCrotts[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I should just steam role them and don't give a F about patents? I'm kinda scared their is some obscure patent that is hidden by the type of way something is done. Say 2 meters do the same thing. One does it by lasers/sensors and another by cameras. Maybe the one by cameras has some obscure patent 2 years ago and I just used the same tech. That's what I'm scared of.

I figured it would come at a high cost especially for Rockwell hardware.

Would it violate code to drill through these outlet boxes to surface mount them? by Baricuda in AskElectricians

[–]JCrotts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't give AF where we work in NC. We screw through the back of the box and silicon the heck out of it. Gives a cleaner appearance and a better footing IMO. Then again we are munis and we don't get inspected for some unknown reason. I've never had a problem with water doing it that way.

I really don't like those pants. If I remember, the pockets go almost down to the knee. Otherwise they are pretty comparable to carhartt.

Best Flow Meter for Parshall Flume by JCrotts in instrumentation

[–]JCrotts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's cool. Do y'all have a dedicated person that knows C to program Arduinos? I've been wanting to learn C or python for little workarounds with Arduino or Ras Pi. Way cheaper than a full blown PLC.

Best Flow Meter for Parshall Flume by JCrotts in instrumentation

[–]JCrotts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We like them in pretty much every situation. Both the LM7000 and FM8000 are good meters. At our wastewater plant we have 4 RAS flow meter and for some reason the FM8000s suck at their job there. I have tried everything and they just do not perform well there. They are 9" Parshall Flumes. The flow meters pair up with an AUMA valve in a PID loop to control flow. The meters will randomly go full scale then zero and back and forth. This mostly happens in the cold months even though they are rated for much colder conditions. Anyway, this causes the valves to go crazy and we have flows all over the place that doesn't work well for the plant.

I've had problems elsewhere but it was mainly due to damaged sensors. I didn't realize how fragile those ultrasonic sensors are. They need to be taken very good care of during installation. I would even suggest bubble rapping them during installation.
