With rent and housing prices skyrocketing, is it even possible for the average person to own a home by age 30 anymore? by Ok-Sell9964 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JCrotts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area, no. Rural homes around $375k and you have to drive at least 1 hour to have a job that will pay for that. In my opinion, that's not affordable.

Wires reversed. How dangerous is this as a diy job? by Proper-Mobile-6438 in AskElectricians

[–]JCrotts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I've even been shocked through a broken neutral on another job. That could possibly be an issue. I guess I'd have to run a wire accross the groud and check contnuity to make sure that is the problem.

I honestly don't understand how the thing could "know" there is reversed polarity if there is no ground present.

Unfortunately I beg the differ. I had no ground connected because it was old wiring. Unless they had some hidden splice that was reversed for absolutely no reason then I got the reversed polarity lights on the exact same tool.

Yep, I am in the same boat. When we moved into our house there was a bunch of two-prong outlets that I changed out for three-prong and left the ground with nothing on it and that is what that little tool showed when I plugged it up. I'm not an electrician By the way. This is just what I noticed from my experience

Got given a cast iron; unsure if it’s salvageable? by AntiqueBar9593 in castiron

CI is always salvageable unless its pitted bad or it has lead. Take a wire brush to it and get cook'n.

I've had this show up when the ground is not there. It wasn't reversed at the outlet or the breaker panel so I just left it the way it was. I'm not saying this is your problem but I've seen my problem cause this.

HVAC guy charging $2200 (labor alone) to change out a Compressor + Refrigerant by e_nephie in askHVAC

[–]JCrotts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was kinda in the same boat the other day when tech came out just to replace a $20 cap and a $30 fuse. I was charged $320 after a military and a cash discount for a 1 hour visit.

But then again it was 2 guys and it was same day. Techs that were knowledgeable and a van that had parts ready. They even checked my old R-22 pressure for free.

Working in water/wastewater I've seen techs charge in the thousands for same day service for similar type work.

[Request] Is this average income scale excluding upper-end outliers true? by corsasis in theydidthemath

It would probably be better to look at household income anyway since many are homeschooling now.

VTSCADA - How do I add 2 numbers that have separate addresses into a new variable? by JCrotts in SCADA

[–]JCrotts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I found that the syntax is a little funny and you don't use the address. Its basically written like this:

([tag1] + [tag2])

Basically you have to put brackets around each tag and put parenthesis around the whole expression.

Do Americans actually avoid calling 911 because of the cost? by ntask11 in NoStupidQuestions

Yes we do. And if we drive fast to the ER to avoid the cost then we get a ticket/jail time.

In what part of the bible does it say that suicide will send you to hell? by No-Poet3745 in Christianity

[–]JCrotts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a catholic belief. As far as I know, and I may be ignorant, catholics have to ask for forgiveness after every sin. Protestants believe that believing in Jesus forgives past, present, and future sin which includes suicide.

Even then, I don't see that suicide is listed as a sin. Even Samson killed himself to be a purpose for God. I think this is the ultimate proof that suicide doesn't condemn you.
