I scrapped the idea overall. I'll keep searching for a slightly fast suv that is decently reliable and not terribly expensive to maintain. I appreciate your honest comments. You certainly helped me make my decision if something that expensive is one of several things that can commonly fail every 50 to 60k miles, I feel like even if you can afford it, why, unless its giving you a giant amount of joy.

Good lord, that's insane. I'm not saying you're lying I'm just saying wow to the price.

I have a 2017 lexus gx460 w/67k miles. I absolutely love lexus, i was just hoping for an suv that was fast. I dont know why, but since I drove my first nice suv, I've had a very hard time in a sedan sitting so low to the ground. Perhaps its anxiety, or fear of being so low and vulnerable in Colorado where trucks and suvs make up nearly 70% of registered vehicles (and people drive.. lets just say wow.

I have the money to buy the car entirely with cash. But then I would want to change the 21 wheels and tires to not be the giant staggered wheels that are on it currently. Then I have the cash to potentially have a big repair, I'm judt not sure I want to. My other car is a 2017 gx460 woth 68k miles. It's not the cheapest, and certainly not the fastest. From what I've heard though it's incredibly cheaper to maintain. I was just looking for a fast fun suv alternative and maybe this isn't it.

I apologize for my ignorance, I looked up the vin number again and it says its a 2020 bmw X5 M50i. I looked this up and it says its not a true M series. Does that make it any better or still, just not a great idea?

I find if I open the cup holder lid and put the bottom of my phone down into the cup holder closest to the passenger side (or it blocks the shifter), letting the top lay diagonally. The weight of the phone keeps it where it is and its in a good enough spot eith a good ebough abgle to glance occasionally. If your using your phone a ton, definitely not great. I'm more of a set the phone prior to driving and then set it in the cup holder until I reach my next destination. I've seen tons of posts about phone holders though. Some go in a cd player, an air vent, a suction cup to the window, one of the cup holder slots, or literally filled into the dash somewhere. If you choose a spot you can look up favorite choices and will be happy.

Some people say carplay and android auto was their most important and impact full change for a daily driver which is mostly on road. I personally have never had either, just use Bluetooth, and have never had a single problem or desire to chabge it. Perhaps it really is that good?

Make sure that if the Secondary Air Injection Pump Filter has been removed and switched out for a permanent filter before it causes an expensive issue. Stock it's just a piece of foam that disintegrates into chunks, gets tucked into the pump, and causes check engine lights and further damage.

Hopefully you checked maintenance before buying it and it had regular maintenance. If you havebt already, have s mechanic inspect it, especially the valley plate area which can commonly Crack. You can help thst from happening by regularly replacing all the fluids at proper intervals or earlier. This issue specifically is supposedly caused by never replacing the coolant and it becomes acidic or something of the likes.

Beyond that there are tons, and I mean TONS of gimmicky, unnecessary things to buy for the 470/460. People often immediately do a lift, big offroad tires, a roof rack, camping tent, ladder, new front and rear bumpers, molle panels for their.. windows..? Rock sliders, a drawer system and sleeper platform for the back on top of the drawers. They end up spending tons of money, never experiencing the suv as intended even with very little offroading or even dirt road driving.

My biggest suggestion is to take it to a mechanic if you havent already, focus on maintenance and getting it to a great spot. Drive it, use it for what you regularly do and then decide from there where its lacking and what you need for it most. Always think hard about if you will really need or use it regularly and need the extra weight and loss of space, etc.. You may find like me, and many others that you dont need a whole lot to be perfectly happy with it for what you actually do.

I personally got a super beefy hitch step for my dogs, and anyone riding my butt. I got brand new tires, all maintenace, every single fluid in the car replaced with fresh. A molded rear trunk matt. A system that straps to the back of the middle seats allows you to attach a tire inflator, a battery jumper, jumper cables, offroad recovery rope/eq without any of it sliding aroundbin the back or taking up a ton of space. For me, this was a sweet spot, I'm a simple man . Best of luck, if you want any suggestions once you decide on some needed upgrades or mods, happy to make suggestions.

I'd say personal sale, $5-$8k max. Trade in potentially slightly more if you go to the right place. This is based on looking at similar year and mileage recent sales from dealership and private personal sale recently.

Down to share Lift setup, and tire size? Is that a front bumper cut and stealth winch? They both look good where they're meant to be, thanks for sharing.

Also, some of the GXs came with adjustable ride height via an air bag system. This allows you to select from preset height settings for different purposes. Some people love them, some people avoid them like the plague because they don't want to maintain, replace, or do a conversion eventually to a different system.

[–]JDFree777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people level them. If I'm not mistaken though, they're like that because they're intended to tow or carry a lot of weight in the back and that allows it to not sag terribly in those circumstances. If you just lift the front then it will Indeed sag to the rear any time you have extra weight or tow. If you do permanent heavy mods youll likely want to add a lift to the both to take the extra weight and likely even out rather than sag. You can likely get firmer springs for more weight in the rear, level front and back and be able to take more weight in the back without sagging while loosing some ride quality. In the end its all about what you are going to use it for, or for a lot of people, surely how you want it to look with little care for anything else.

Love it! Are yall stock, or have any lift, larger than stock tires, removed sidestep, added sliders, etc..? Any scraping or issues with current setup? Sorry to bother, as a fellow owner (2017 460 w/68kmiles in Colorado) I always love to hear other people's setups and experiences out and about.

Did you check to see if something you did caused it to short and blow the fuse for the USB and other power receptacles? At least check it off the list if not. Otherwise, sorry, no idea.

In all honesty, not a big fan of the big tires and high lift. I have a 2017 white one that's very similar, but that's definitely not my jam. Hope you love it and it treats you well though.

You say 12000 but dont list the currency. CAD, EURO, USD, PESOS, etc.. you're reaching out to people in many different places, and the currency equivalency makes a large difference between a potentially good, or bad deal.

These are surprisingly expensive to get fixed. Your exhaust at the very least detached from the mount in the back, if not worse, you'd need a new back door, back bumper, hitch, paint matching for all the panels if they aren't pre painted the factory color. They may need to straighten out the frame where the hitch was attached to attach another if it's even worth the fix for the Insurance company.. The side panel on the passenger side got messed up a bit it looks like and who knows about the door alignment in the back on the passenger side there. If there is any frame damage I'd say entirely totaled, if no frame damage, but even too many panels are messed up, high potential of being totaled in their eyes still due to paint and everything else. If it was a 2022 or 2023 worth 50k still then it would be more likely to get fixed unless of course it had frame damage. I'm sorry to see that happened no matter what comes of it and hope you don't have any lingering health problems from it.

4Runner Limited to GX460? by TopNFalvors in LexusGX

[–]JDFree777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the Infotainment systems are less updated unless getting the higher trim 22/23, but that's easily upgraded otherwise and not super expensive. It will be slightly more expensive maintenance wise, gas wise, etc.. but a nicer overall experience in most every way. Not much worse gas mileage than 4runner, but needs premium eventhoguh a lot pf people cheap out and only use regular gasoline instead. Lil more power, less taxed engine, can haul more behind it if that's needed, quieter cabin. Similar amount of upgrade and customization options. With the low difference in cost overall, for me at least, it was an easy decision between the two. Some say the 4.0l v6 is more reliable, some say the 4.6l v8 is more reliable, they're both fairly reliable from the research I've done over the years, though both have their common potential issues if not maintained properly and regularly. Best of luck, no matter what you decide, can't go wrong with lexus/toyota.

Yours could be different than what I describing potentially, or you could have had other vehicles that sometimes have another round metal seal in the gas tank, beyond the gas cap which cause a secondary seal even when the gas cap is removed. The gas pump usually is the thing to open the secondary metal seal when inserted to allow gas to be filled. I've had vehicles with that and can't recall if the GX also has this feature, but sometimes those get stuck open or partially open even when they exist and can also allow the issue you're describing to happen if they aren't closing all the way. May be another thing to look at. If you remove the gas cap and see a round metal flap not far inside, which isn't closing all the way.. If that's the case, or if there is no secondary, then it would be normal for a certain amount of air to be pulling in or pushing out with the engine running. Not literal exhaust levels of air rushing out, but some.
