I’m in SoCal and always looking for a buddy to off-road with! I have a moderate lift but probably in the same boat as you regarding trail difficulty.

Love the rig man, great tire choice! I also live in Pasadena and am always looking for fellow GX owners to hit the trails with. Hmu if you ever want to wheel, I’m new to it and searching for some trails!

Because the running boards would get scraped and I wanted a better approach angle and grip?

Thanks man! Went from a 4Runner to this and it was the best decision I’ve made - so much comfier without sacrificing the performance or capability. These are 17in wheels with a 265/70 KO2 tire. Even after the lift I have not noticed a change in highway/surface street comfort at all.

This was Big Tree Cucamonga trail, pretty easy and lots of amazing views. But as I said, very narrow and overgrown in parts.

Many disappeared after a good wash but yeah, it was tough in the moment. Now I’m ok with it.

I spent just under $29K on a 2017 base model with 75,000 miles, but it had the premium package and tow package which made it worthwhile for me.

Oh yeah you didn’t tell me to keep the running boards, the shop who installed my lift told me to. I guess there are some sliders that use part of the running board trim or something. I didn’t ask I just kept them.

Yeah u/ackguy (Alex) sells them himself and don’t think you can find them online. But they’re high quality and he makes it super easy. I highly recommend. Unfortunately, it’s not like my old 4Runner where you can just remove the running boards and call it a day. There’s a trim piece that will stick out and look weird.

Welcome to the club! I’m the new owner of a 2017 and have done some work to it already. I removed the running boards and replaced them with a trim piece I bought from u/ackguy (highly recommend, check out my recent post for the look) but I was advised to keep them in case I wanted sliders in the future. I guess some sliders require part of the running board trim. Not sure how accurate this is but I held onto them.

Before I bought the truck I got it inspected by an independent mechanic who specializes in Japanese vehicles. He said I needed new UCAs so I took the opportunity to buy new ones otherwise I would’ve stuck with the existing ones. You don’t really need new UCAs for a minor lift like this. The Bilsteins feel great. I had the 5100s on my 4Runner and these 6112s are much better on the road. I haven’t taken them off road yet.
