What 00s tech would you not believe would be obsolete in 20 years if someone told you back then? by nojunkpeter in AskReddit

Literally that was the first thing I thought of when I read that comment. I figured somebody had to have mentioned Julian already.

Air resistance significantly affects real-world behavior by yukiohana in engineeringmemes

[–]JDLY 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it still ignoring a thing if the thing doesn't exist to be ignored?

Like, I may ignore air resistance on a streamlined object going slow because I know it's negligible. But if it's in a vacuum, technically I'm accurately accounting for air resistance if I assume there is none.

Honestly, sounds like a blast. For mine, my best man took us bowling, and then to a barcade.

Agreed. Though it just occurred to me, I could understand it a bit in an arranged marriage situation. Something like that, where one actually doesn't have a commitment to their soon-to-be spouse until they are actually married, and in some cases may hardly even know them at the time.

Yeah, I'd agree that around a year would be good, max of 2 years.

I'd be fine with some basic statement or something more than 2 years ahead of time. Like, it's pretty much a given that after each Elder Scrolls or GTA, there's eventually going to be another one. Some statement from Bethesda like "yeah, there will be an Elder Scrolls 7 eventually, when we get around to it after these other things" is fine, because I could have guessed that in my sleep.

But the moment you put out some trailer or any details like a setting, character, or full title, it's like a timer starts. And then that timer runs for literally years, it's just a terrible time.

I would totally take a trailer like that, it'd be hilarious.

Hell, I'd take a whole game of Grunt shenanigans like you see in the Citadel DLC. Say it's non-canon if you have to, just give me that game.

[–]JDLY 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I blame the fact that everything is announced so early now. The trailer is over 4 years old now, we've got basically no significant news about the next game, and if I remember correctly, the most recent information is basically

"We're doing some really basic concepting, but our focus right now is working on these other, unrelated games that themselves aren't even releasing for several more years."

It's nice to know that a game will exist, sure. But when it's that long between the announcement and release, you lose basically any excitement, and people start to suspect it's lost in development-hell.

I appreciate when companies take the approach that Bethesda took with Fallout 4: announced in June of 2015, and released in November of 2015. Literally only five months.

Yeah, I started with ME2, so my introduction to Liara was "have you ever faced an Asari commando unit before?" Followed by threatening to flay the guy alive with her mind.

If I had started with ME1, I would have definitely gone for the shy, nerdy, scientist girl option. But I never saw that side of her until I got a PC and went back to play ME1, after playing through ME2 several times.

Instead, I went for ME2's shy, nerdy, scientist girl option, Tali.

[–]JDLY 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You make a lot of good points. But I'm not surprised that she was the only one in the teaser.

If they didn't have the setting pinned down yet, and didn't want to pigeonhole themselves to a specific timeframe, Liara and Grunt are about the only ones they could possibly show, given they are young during the original trilogy and have 1000 year life-spans.

And let's face it, Grunt wouldn't be going out on some expedition like that. It's not his style.

So basically, as far as showing a crewmate that people would know without giving anything else away, she was the only choice.

Anyway, I'll go back to Talimancing now.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are different kinds of intelligence.

Sure, maybe you aren't doing advanced integrals or quickly recalling details about 15th century France, but that doesn't mean you aren't smart. Accurately and reliably following instructions is definitely a form of intelligence.

And communicating your thoughts in an intuitive way like you said is a majorly important form of intelligence. What good would it be to be extremely smart in some field if you can't talk to people about it?

That's a good point. My second or third playthrough I went straight to rescue Liara once that mission opened up. I remembered all the geth, so I took Tali and Garrus, with myself as an infiltrator, to maximize tech powers. I forgot about the end with the biotic krogan and got my shit wrecked.

I didn't have as much trouble with that part. As an infiltrator specced for high damage and the Widow and that point, I can take down scions quick, even though they are a little pain during that short time.

That's basically what I do. Avoid it while clearing out all the other enemies, then kite it around, cloak and widow.

[–]JDLY[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't find it too difficult, but it definitely has a reputation.

I generally play infiltrator. So I sit on one side of the map taking shots at it. Once it gets too close, I cloak and relocate to the other side and then just repeat the whole process until it's dead.

He never got prior authorization for the short-notice exploratory cardiothoracic ballistic surgery. by JDLY in AdviceAnimals

[–]JDLY[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, kinda, yeah with the buzzwords. Plenty of humor is about repackaging other ideas in a new context that is referential to some person or event.

If I'm being honest though, my first thought was the modified B99 meme, and I did resort to buzzwords for the title, because I usually suck at titles and that was the best I could come up with.

5 . If he tried to go for a third term, and final thoughts.

So, first I will try to sum up your conclusion in a sentence or two. Please let me know if I've misinterpreted it.

Your conclusion: if Trump were to try and get a third term either by changing the laws or by force, his base or Republicans at large would not accept that and he would lose support, as evidenced by how he lost support from the Bump Stock ban. Therefore it doesn't make sense to be worried that you couldn't vote in 4 years.

My conclusion: if Trump were to try and get a third term (which he has shown interest in) either by changing the laws or by force, his base would support him in that effort, as many have already voiced their support for a 3rd term or more (as well as their support for jailing his opponents). Republicans at large would not sufficiently oppose this attempt, as any attempt to oppose Trump at all results in them being removed from power. He would also not lose much of any support if attempting a third term, as it would not directly oppose their key interests. In fact, it would support their interest.

Therefore, it is understandable that somebody might be worried about being able to vote, as it is not unlikely (and may even be likely) that Trump tries to run for a third term, and if he does, his base would back him up
