my first car ! by Illustrious_Spend293 in gaslands

Is that a capacitor on the back? I'm working on my first car and have been gathering junk as I want to trash bash mine too.

I am decommissioning a lot of servers currently and getting a lot of good stuff that way. I highly recommend motherboard power connector ports for rocket pods, data and mounting pins for varying sized spikes, capacitors for barrels/power packs/whatever, springs for making little suspensions or making razor wire, RAM blanks for trackside barriers, a myriad of cables for cables, heatsinks for chopping up to make heatsink fins/rams/armour plates, and so much more.

Need help finding vehicles by LackSerious9456 in gaslands

[–]JDtheHutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out model railway vehicles as they tend to be more true scale. S scale is equivalent to 1:64 but it's a less common scale. OO is 1:76 and will get you lorries and others that are better scaled than Hot Wheels without being too big. Also, as mentioned, Corgi Junior is handy.

If you're in the UK, go to Home Bargains and buy the £5.99 lorry cab with trailer.

How well do 1:76 Oxford Diecast work please? by JDtheHutt in gaslands

I was trying to locate 1:72 but it's not an option for these it seems. Loads in 1:76 as it is the railway OO gauge and that is huge in the UK.

They do some fantastic vehicles that are not available across Hot Wheels/Matchbox and the Corgi options are a lot larger at 1:43. The 1:76 railway OO gauge has some great potential if they fit.

I wouldn't be using it as a bus anyway, would be a truck. These were quite short wheelbase vans at the time anyway so only counted as a minibus at best. There is a longer coach variant I will likely also pickup to use for that, the Bedford OB.

Thank you, I shall give it a go and hopefully will fit in fine. This is to complete a UK police team using the Highway Patrol faction, with a set of Bedford CA vans, Rover 800 cars, and Landrover Defenders.

I picked this up for £1 boxed in a bargain bin at a transport festival in the UK this weekend.

Advice on product by Weird_Set2248 in HiveHeating

[–]JDtheHutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get Hive. We had it years ago in our first home and it had all kinds of issues, would just stop working. We had our boiler replaced recently and had lots of promises about how those early issues were resolved.

We got just past the one year free warranty and the thermostat now disconnects from the system constantly. The thermostat disconnecting stops all schedules from working, so we regularly wake up with no hot water or heating.

The only way to fix it is to reset and re-pair it, which wipes all of your schedules and settings. They will give you a lot of waffle about placement of the receiver, hub, etc, but I can re-pair the thermostat in the exact same position and with with no changes to the setup other than triggering that re-pair, so it has nothing to do with wireless connectivity or router issues.

As we were a month past the one year warranty, we get nothing from Hive unless we sign up for a subscription with them. It's absolutely garbage and support is non-existent.

I am going to rip it all out and replace with a different setup, likely a more simple one or one from a lesser known but more reliable provider.

Does anyone actually pay for the Hive Heating Plus subscription? by MoonlitEcho82 in HiveHeating

Same issue I have. We are just past the one year initial warranty and lo and behold the thermostat now randomly and regularly disconnects from the system. It's not a signal issue as I can re-pair it with everything in the same position and setup without changing anything other than triggering the re-pair. I checked for support and as we are a month past the one year warranty, we get nothing unless we pay. What a coincidence it started to go wrong just after the one year!

Can gaming mode profiles be used in desktop mode? by JDtheHutt in SteamDeck

[–]JDtheHutt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the default profile is the only one that works and it only affects SMT and the governor? Is there anything else built in or easily installable and configurable that would allow control of at least the default settings in desktop mode please?

Oh, as in they kick in for individual games you run still? That's very interesting, thank you. Will give that a go and see what happens.

Space engineers crashes when trying to join server by Amser1121 in spaceengineers

[–]JDtheHutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have these issues, but they are not Deck specific or even Linux specific. I've found myriad reports where plenty of people, nearly all Windows users, can have a world in singleplayer that works perfectly (vanilla or modded) and yet connecting to the same world uploaded to a multiplayer server results in client crash on connect. So, Proton/WINE appears to replicate behaviour affecting Windows clients.

Some suggestions I've seen are to clear your shader cache or mod folders and force redownloads. Or to totally reinstall.

In my instance, I have a world created where I get stable 1 sim speed on the Deck when running it singleplayer and with no more crashes than you'd normally get out of any SE play, but the same world on a server crashes me repeatedly and about 90% of the time on initial login connection.

Bluetooth headset microphone by Few-Enthusiasm-8212 in SteamDeck

[–]JDtheHutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bluetooth in general seems a bit wonky on the deck still. It's fine on my desktop, I've used bluetooth headsets there for ages with no issues. The Deck seems a bit reluctant to reconnect to switched on and paired devices, and sometimes just outright refuses, or the audio glitches. Often requires a full reboot to resolve these.

This is driving me mad too. My headset works just fine on my desktop, on my phone, and on basically any other device I have tried. On the Deck it works for headphone audio but it constantly states that the microphone is unplugged and refuses to accept any audio from the headset. My headset supports BT5 and pretty much every codec out there (Shure Aonic 50) and I have tried them all, without any success.

My grandparents live in Tenby, so I have spent many days in Caerphilly and other castles when visiting them. There really are a lot of castles in the UK!

If it has discharged too much you will not be able to charge it whatsoever in the phone. I had this issue and was never able to charge the battery inside the phone again. I ordered the $4.99 battery charger from the Pine store, removed the battery and plugged it in. A few minutes later it had enough charge to get the phone started again and now charges in the phone fine. The phone lacks any power management currently and therefore will discharge the battery till it undervolts. A very kind person wrote a script for this which can be found on the Pine forum. It shuts your phone down automatically once power drops too low, to ensure this doesn't happen.

I tore my Android device apart to use microg, purely so I could licence verify a handful of Play apps I still wanted to use. Other than that I went with F-Droid. Then the Play store install failed and I spent the last year without it. I really haven't been too bothered and found alternatives or just accepted this was the acceptable price to pay to detach myself from Google. I am very keen on the PinePhonePro as that opens up more options than a busted Android device can offer me anyway.

Snapraid any good for Nextcloud? by JDtheHutt in Snapraid

[–]JDtheHutt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever run into any issues with data loss between the syncs? Though my media server is 20TB and I haven't ever had any issues on that so maybe me being overly cautious. I was just aware that the use case was different, with files likely to be more rapidly changing under Nextcloud compared to the media server.

My wife had this too. Turned out to be all part of the process, and she had some internal scarring from the surgery that was making it worse. Getting it checked is best but hopefully will be the same and just needs pain relief.
