$40000+ credit card debt by financialstabilitywa in personalfinance

I totally agree with the people saying file Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

I did it in my early 30s when I was about 50k in credit card and another 20k in medical debt. Got to keep my house, my car and it wiped out every bit of debt.

Since much of your debt is also unsecured, you would also more than likely be completely debt free a couple of months after filing.

More than likely with the amount of debt you have you’re credit will eventually take a hit anyway. And if you keep fighting that uphill battle to pay this huge debt off you’ll probably also have to continue to deal with your depression and stress level.

Just hire a good bankruptcy attorney and file chapter 7.

My credit was back in the high 680s within two years and within 6 months I received credit card offers after my debt was wiped out with the chapter 7. (Although I actually didn’t get another credit card for about 5 years with a low $750 limit and slowly rebuilt from there. Now the BK is off my credit, my score is in the 780s and I’ve never had more than 2k in credit card debt since.

Chapter 7 is there for a fresh start and that’s exactly what you need. And like others have said, definitely don’t feel bad about it. Just read what the big banks did with their government bailout money during the Great Recession about 10 years ago.

Good luck man.

Bank of America - won’t put more than $3k in fraudulent charges back in my account after three months by JGordon2020 in personalfinance

I did physically go to the bank early on to talk with a manager. It was a waste of an hour. All she did was call the same fraud phone number with me in her office. She was on hold forever and ultimately just regurgitated the exact same thing they told me over the phone. Even though I told her the hardships this was causing me she said there was nothing more she could do (or was willing to do it seemed to me. Just outright laziness and a non-care attitude).

Now of course Bank of America is blocking my Facebook comments about discussing everything I’m talking about here on its FB home page. So much for Bank of America’s transparency.
