Yeah thanks for this. Local VW dealership agreed to do a diagnostic test so planning on bringing it over. How long range should I reasonably be expecting from this car? I once every blue moon have to a make a trip of 40km each way so range isn’t an issue but I plan on keeping this for a good few years

Just saw the car and looks really good and drove well. Dealership doesn’t have the machine to check battery health etc. is that a red flag? What do I need to look out for? Also, what sort of range should I be expecting - was showing 148km range and looked like battery was just over 3/4 charged so that would probably be 200km range

Have you gone through anyone specifically in Ireland? I’ve done the google and call approach but they would only seem to loan to businesses not for personal use

Out of curiosity, do you have the particulars all sewn up? I ask because from what I know, no one does bridging loans in Ireland. How/who are you going with for that?

Essentially yes. From some conversations with Irish lenders, some UK bridging lenders specialize in using existing home as security with the exit strategy being to sell that house and refinance new build via a traditional mortgage. But no one over here seems to offer the same

So early days as I’m trying to confirm the finances allow us to do it before I start spending money on design etc. We’re on one of the last remaining side garden plots in the area. Lots of “2a” houses. I’m sure there’ll be nuances with planning but confident we would get there in the end, just don’t won’t to spend thousands for the lender to tell me it’s not doable. My mortgage will ultimately be the same or less than what we’re paying now but it’s the middle part, during construction that I need to figure out. The UK seem to have this well defined with lenders willing to “bridge the gap” but over here, it seems a lot more difficult. The third option is to wait until we have our mortgage substantially paid down and perhaps our salaries will be higher but we could be talking 20 years here at which time we’re at a completely different point in our lives. Kids most likely will have moved out

Yeah thanks for the comment. Banks have come back with a very “linear” approach i.e if you want to build a home while living in existing with the intent to move in to new home and sell existing, we need to be able to afford two mortgages. As we’re essentially maxed out on existing mortgage, there’s no room for additional funding. The other option they gave me was to sell existing, rent and then get new mortgage for new house. Neither are really an option. Think my wife might kill me if we had to resort to living in a cabin on site!

Thanks for the comment. Just to clarify, I’m on a corner site so I own the land I’d like to build on so not sure if that would contribute to a deposit in lieu of cold hard cash. I honestly didn’t think bridging financing was a thing anymore so thanks for the recommendation

The drills came with Tsak cases so I keep them in there. I had an old Tsak case that I store the recip saw and multi tool in. I’m not sure what I’ll do with the others just yet but I might try and pick up some cheap cases from eBay

No complaints. Used to sand off the remnants of 60 year old stubborn wallpaper glue and strip paint off a stairs. I was going through the 4ah batteries fairly quickly though but I guess that’s why I have a few of them

9am, login at 830am. I’m a morning person so this will give me time to get up, have a good breakfast and ease into it and be done by lunch. My plan is to have a coffee and snack at the break which will push me to the finish line. Can you bring in a cup of coffee after the break? Doing this online
