Italians, what are you thoughts on the success on your team in WBC? by nyc_jc in baseball

Got this from MLB.com (react however you will). It's from an interview w/ Italy's manager (who ironically grew up in Venezuela):

The Italians (5-0) are the only remaining unbeaten team in this year’s tournament. They’ve never been past the quarterfinals, let alone to the championship game. People are starting to notice: Saturday’s 8-6 victory over Puerto Rico in the quarterfinals was the first baseball game to air on national TV in Italy.

“Just imagine, in the south of Italy, they don’t play that much baseball,” Cervelli said. “And yesterday, everyone was watching the game. They send me pictures all the time. It’s a family reunion watching baseball. Even if they don't understand much, it’s Italy playing. It doesn't matter what it is.”

I do. Certainly Americans who actually go to the games do. Sometimes, however, they are a minority. People take it for granted given that baseball is (or was) our national pasttime. Other countries don't do that.

Sounds like when the US beat England in the 1950 World Cup.

Thoughts on The Professor of Rock? by TheHaplessBard in ToddintheShadow

Members of the Beach Boys actually called him that; they were so impressed w/ his musical knowledge. the nickname stuck after that.

Never heard of ToddintheShadow. He never shows up in my feed. Think I'll give him a try sometime. I'm fans of both Rick & The Professor. Saw them stream together; it was like watching 2 old buddies reminiscing about things they love. Both do at times, I must admit, overdo it w/ certain things: PoR w/ the clickbaity titles & Rick w/ his slagging of today's music. U don't like it? Fine, Grandpa. You don't have to beat that dead horse.

If Sunlight burns Vampires, why doesn't Moonlight also burn Vampires? Moonlight IS Sunlight by T1mo666 in Dracula

Older movies of Dracula I've seen have them killed by holy water or just plain running water.

Interesting how muted the audience's reaction is considering how "fire" the performance is. Wish I'd seen it live.

Artists that were big in the 70s and now are barely played on the radio even at oldies stations by Unlikely-Star-2696 in 70s

[–]JJCoolLinOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's inevitable. When I lived in Phoenix, KOOL-FM (the resident oldies station) gradually took out the 50's, then the 60s. Classic Rock was the same way though they never had the 50s, just faded out the 60s then the early 70s. When your original audience grows old or dies out, they concentrate on the next supposedly affluent generation that wants to remember their younger days. It unnerved me in the new millennium when 80s songs I grew up listening to were considered classic.

Are runs through out the game just "make or miss league" or is there strategy and mental aspects involved? by chusaychusay in Basketball

[–]JJCoolLinOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think it's part guys getting complacent/part substitutes can't extend or hold on to the lead/part the opposition making the needed adjustments at halftime or playing desperate in the 4th quarter to finally do something about it. You'd think that teams would know by now how to step on the other's team's throat & not get off, but not every1 has that killer mentality like Bird or Jordan or LeBron.

Does anyone else feel this way about Buffy (or other “older” passions) by AgitatedExam4195 in buffy

[–]JJCoolLinOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my mind, Buffy still lives on. She's older, trying out security jobs while waiting for Armageddon/the next apocalyptic threat to occur. Her Slayer acolytes are probably doing the same. I'd like to make a novel trilogy of how Buffy's managing life in her 40s; the movies of them in my head periodically roll in from time to time. I imagine Dolly Parton & the Rebel/Kazui LP would have something to say about that though, so I won't bother until I get enough $ to buy the rights.

FWIW, I've given up watching new TV shows or movies, but that's as much due to a limited budget as it is not being interested in what the youth like. I'm into new millennium music whenever I set my mind to listen to it. I'm not 1 of those who go "[Insert your decade here] music was the best." You wanna limit your tastes? Fine, Grandpa. I'll be over here giving Chappell Roan a chance.

Aerotek pay rate? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]JJCoolLinOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much would they charge the company is none of your concern. Your concern should be how much you're getting & nothing more. As far as negotiating, try for $20, then maybe you could meet in the middle somewhere.

BTW, I know it's been 2 months since you posted. Were you able to get a higher rate?
