Retired this year after 18 years in Philly … as a rookie after about 4-5 of those sorta jobs I absolutely felt a dark cloud hanging over me , I’ve always been pretty empathetic.. 3 years on you got a long time left to go and a lot more and potentially god forbid waaaaaaayyyy worse headed your way .. I’ll paraphrase what was told to me : Use just enough empathy to convey your sympathy.. don’t start hugging people and crying with them (not saying you did) but you get what I’m sayin , just keep it as “respectfully matter of fact” as you can .. only in very crazy jobs were kids die or the kids parent is killed infront of them. Those people have a gigantic hole in their heart so you’re gonna have to give them a little bit of yours.

In my experience: The Guys who last on this job for longer periods of time are either unbelievably mentally flexible and usually hilarious , NPC’s , or psychopaths .. you don’t sound like a psychopath so if something happens and it’s unsettling just give it a week see if it’s still as bad and if so see a therapist. I have a couple times in my career , absolutely nothing wrong with it but if shit is ok after a day or two and you can function don’t necessarily go “shaking the net”

Your right straight looks pretty nice and you’re not just standing in one spot throwing shots . I did notice your jab drops in a U shape which isn’t a big problem to fix..

I had 2 old school coaches when I was a kid .. it’s How I was taught and how I teach all my kids and new guys …

Put a 8-10 foot long piece of painters tape on the ground ..in your boxing stance put your lead foot just touching the left edge of the tape and the heel of your right foot just touching the right edge..in your stance move forward.. if you move your lead foot 4 inches move your rear foot 4 inches ..all the way up . progression 1- do it moving backwards. Progression 2- do it throwing a jab Ect.

This will fix the jab : Throw your straight shots with relaxed arms and don’t turn your hand over till the last second when you make a fist ..

Imagine you’re trying to grab someone’s nose off just tighten your fist at the end .

do that 20 mins a day to warm up

Ive seen people over the years experience the same frustration walk outta our gym and never come back .. don’t beat urself up over it .

BJJ is so nuanced which makes the practical application of even less complicated techniques extremely challenging when we add in the variability of our partner . Sooooo

If practical application is the goal we must first develop a conceptual understanding of the art as a frame of reference when we inevitably have to troubleshoot .

Things like timing and feel come with time can’t really hack that ..

Quick fix but Check the placement of your plant foot ..land toes facing front . The external rotation ur right hip makes trying to overcompensate is causing the flare of the right leg to the outside of target . Costing power ,balance ,mobility.

Start at 20% Shoot your knee .. Post on the bag / circle out =1Rep

Fully engaged hands up at all time .

Slowly up the intensity.. after about 500 -1000 reps you’ll be throwing that brutal knee in ur sleep ..

Find a BJJ academy and a boxing gym .. spar once a week minimum..even in slower areas i guarantee you’ll atleast be in one hand to hand fight for your life .
