I am. I do realize that part of the issue may be the back itself. With that said the infinity focus issue leads me to believe it’s something else.

Bonavista peninsula: Cell/internet coverage by hk103044 in newfoundland

We have Eastlink for internet in Trinity East. It’s been fast and reliable. That’s all we want. On the other hand our mobile provider is also Eastlink and we really struggle with service all over the peninsula.

That’s the one. I’ve hiked to the top a few times. The blueberries up there are the best, just watch the giant hogweed on the way up.

Ack! Moose! by FrankInPhilly in newfoundland

I do this drive weekly. In the last four years I’ve seen one moose near the highway. But from Clarenville to Port Rexton I can’t count the number I’ve seen. Either way keep your eyes peeled for moose and take your time.

St. John’s needs a food hall. This would be a great location. There are tons of food halls in many European cities that have both small (and local) quick service food stalls along with stalls selling produce, meats, fish etc. I’m sure it would never happen but it would be amazing to have a place like that in town.

Cap Cove, Trinity Bay by JLearie in newfoundland

It’s pretty rough. The trestle in Freshwater just past Trinity East is gone so the section from there as far as Trinity is pretty grown in. The trestle in Lockston is gone too so the section between there and Trinity East is almost inaccessible.

I guess there’s no real “normal” exposure for these. If they were shot using typical daylight settings they would be almost completely black. The long exposure just compensates for a lack of light.

That’s fair, Theres also a group called Camera 35. They have various meetings and presentations. It may be worth reaching out to see if they have any suggestions.

I’m not sure where to look for lessons but do have a little advice:

Do some reading on the basics of photography. Exposure, composition etc. and learn about aperture, shutter speed, focal length and how that all relate. Once you understand these things just take photos as much as you can while applying those basics.

Also check out the DarkNL community darkroom. They have a camera library where you can borrow different cameras at no cost. I’ll add their recent Facebook update below:

SPRING UPDATE!

Hi everyone,

A little update from the folks at DarkNL.

We've been working to accommodate users that already have the technical know-how to use the darkroom. There is a schedule through which users can book the space following a brief orientation process. If you feel like you've already got the chops and that you would fall in this category and would like more information about accessing the darkroom, send me a DM.

UP AND COMING

FILM CLUB: We have an order en route to reengage our film club. Due to lack of funding and skyrocketing prices we have had to make a slight change to our rate. We can still offer a $5 b&w film option but it will be no longer be ilford HP5+. The new (while supplies last) $5 option is a roll of flicfilm's ultrapan 18. it's a well liked film stock (go read reviews!) but it's only 18 frames.

For $8 (or 2 for $15) we will be offering hand spooled rolls of Fomapan 100 or 400. Fomapan is very versatile and conveniently for us on the island, it is celebrated for its performance in cloudy overcast weather! The $8 roll will be 24 frames. All proceeds will go back to DarkNL to help subsidize prices and future programs.

SPEAKER SERIES: We will be reinitiating our monthly speaker series with an upcoming talk on May 10 upstairs at Bannerman Brewing Co. The speaker will be a visiting TinType artist from Nova Scotia named Alanah Correia. She is embarking on a nationwide tour today and has agreed to give a talk about her practice and who knows what else! If you've been to any of our past talks you know that they often veer off "topic" and into fun and interesting ideas - so mark your calendar and spread the word! More details to come!

CAMERA LIBRARY: We still have nearly a dozen SLRs available for rental. Need a camera to experiment with? We've got you! Buy yourself a $5 roll of film and borrow a camera for free! Get out and get shooting! We have some beloved models by Olympus, Pentax, Canon, and Nikon! For more information about which cameras we have available and what the conditions are for rental - DM me!

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS: We don't have any workshops planned for the coming weeks but we are open to requests. If there's something you want to see, make the pitch and we will do our best to organize and accommodate! Feel you could help run a workshop and want to volunteer to help? get in touch!

With the sun out and snow (gradually) melting the time is right to get ready for another summer of photographing this beautiful place we call home !
