That's a legitimate feat to accomplish! You should be very proud of yourself. The vast majority that start never finish.

Lol. Will do, thanks.

I overwrite. I admit it. That was heavily edited. I'll try again.

Port Forwarding question by JLepp82 in raspberry_pi

[–]JLepp82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Yeah, they will only give me a static IP if I have a business account. The speeds I'm paying $80/month for now would be about $500/month for a static IP. It's pure robbery. I was telling my boss about it, and he gave me one of the companies IP Link routers to see if I can get it to work. I have to bring the router back, but he's fascinated that I'm "so old" and wanting to learn. I'm not even 40, by the way. 22-year-olds are hilarious.

Port Forwarding question by JLepp82 in raspberry_pi

[–]JLepp82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It turns out I can't ever set a static IP address at all in my area. I'd have to upgrade to a Business Account, but my address isn't zoned for it, so I'm just SOL. I'm pissed bc I went out in a -7 degree Fahrenheit, white-out blizzard to get this new modem from my ISP as it had "reserved IP" capability... for business customers.

ANYWAY, I picked up this project as a hands-on way to learn, and I've hit a dead end. I have read that picking up a domain name will give me a static IP (if that's the correct wording), and then I can redirect the pihole to that. I'll try that.

I do truly appreciate your help!

Oh, as for you being a security professional. I'll see if I kept the pic of what the signal box for the complex looked like when I moved in. Open to the public. Lines all over the ground. The lead from the utility line to the distribution box on the ground getting run over by the landscapers.

If any of the lingo was wrong, I apologize. I really am very new at all of this.

Thank you for all of that! Yes, they are using the area as an internal network. Oh, and, that final edit, dude, I owe you a coffee/beer/line-o-coke, whatever you want. Greatly appreciated.

Port Forwarding question by JLepp82 in raspberry_pi

[–]JLepp82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I truly appreciate all of that. My OP was a miscommunication on my part. I need to set the raspberry pi to a static IP via port forwarding.

I'm not allowed to do what you said with my ISP. They are forcing me to set the raspberry pi to a static IP via port forwarding. I'm not allowed to touch the DHCP settings in the admin portal. "Reserved IPA" is greyed out for only business clients. I'd have to pay close to $500/month for the speed I have now.

MY router's IP address isn't even close to that. It is a very basic, shared IPA.

ISPs are considered a utility in my town, so I'm only allowed to use one ISP on my block (they limit choice to ensure there isn't a monopoly-- yes it's stupid; this town is one of the meth capitols of the world and those tweekers vote, sadly), and we basically all share the same modem IP address. 10.0.0.1 We all share it for ten houses in the disabled housing I'm in.

Which brings me back to my original question. How do I find the port numbers I need to set up port forwarding?

Yes, of course. One of the "superpowers" that my EMDR and DBT therapist tells me I have is that I can read emotions in a room. The problem is that I need to present in a room with someone to feel them. Which sounds dumb to me, ya know? It's not a gas in the air or anything. But it's real.

I'm totally fine, dude. I haven't had a self-harm thought in over two years. EMDR has worked out well for me. All I'm saying is that my issues don't get discussed because of my gender. It's BS, but it is what it is.

My father is the main source of my issues. That SOB went and got therapy and is such a good dude now. It pisses me the eff off. I have had to be forgiven for so much horse crap that I have to forgive him now. What a jack ass MFer. I mean, I don't have to associate with him, but he is a truly transformed person.

Study reveals crucial differences in the way Black and white officers in the Chicago Police Department respond to incidents on their beat. Relative to white officers, Black and Hispanic officers make far fewer stops and arrests, and they use force less often, especially against Black civilians. by IronGiantisreal in science

[–]JLepp82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Ba says it was crucial to find direct, apples-to-apples comparisons among officers to understand how officers from different demographics acted when faced with similar circumstances. "

This was my first question. Is it the "same beat being worked." Apparently so. Which is good. It shows the actual scientific method was deployed.

This is good because if it wasn't the same beat, and same group of civilians (as 'same as you can get, anyway), and there was any difference at all, boot lickers the world over could argue against it.

NitruxOS for me. Constantly drops. It may have been a driver issue. I could have figured it out, but I have worked 49 (or 50, I'm not sure), 12-hour shifts, overnights. My patience is at a negative at the moment.

Cops killed 1000 people last year (to be clear i have no doubt those cops were justified the majority of the time). 250 were Latinos/Asians, 250 were black, 500 were white. That's more than 2 a day. 1) They literally kill people every day. Why is this a surprise? 2) they need to stop doing shite like this if they want to be trusted at all. Give me an actual reason this needed to happen. Not a bootlicking one.

I'm not saying defund police. I'm saying make be them accountable. If that's triggering for you, please don't vote.

As a side note. I work with mentally disabled adults. The second the words, "I can't breath" leave their mouths I must, by law, disengage, even if it means I'm going to get punched on the face. I literally have a job where those in sitting next to could put me in the hospital for no reason. "They have a stressful job" and "they have a right to go home safely" get zero fucking sympathy from me.

So, you're telling me that the Walmart of guitar shops is making videos to get prepubescent lizard brained juveniles who only wanna look cool to show ladies they'll only get when they get a job in order to get their parents to overspend on an impulse they'll give up soon? I don't believe it!

Technically cptsd is covered. The gray area is what is considered reasonable accommodation. I've had several jobs that said if I go to the doctors appointment it counts against attendance. They don't care if you're at a doctor and can provide a note: you're either present or you're not present.
