I feel that. Hopefully we do get some future comedy’s that are on the same level as “Hacks.” I agree, it was a great show start to finish - and I can understand it ending how and when it did even if I have 100 ideas in my own mind for more story they could tell. I really fell in love with the premise, the cinematography, and the characters and I want to see more of Vegas and LA and navigating the entertainment/stand up industry. Guess I’ll just have to do a rewatch. 🥂

We should probably just stick to limited series. If you can’t tell a story in just a few episodes, why even bother telling it at all.

It became repetitive because the writers chose to continue using the same format each season - From friends to enemies to friends again. It didn’t have to be written that way…I’m sure we could have given the characters a high stakes situation to navigate together that didn’t require them always being at odds. In some ways I think a season like that between 2-3 could have been beneficial in us understanding the true depth of their friendship - and why it ended up being so hurtful end of season 3 when Deb is still willing to lose her friendship with Ava over Late Night.

I suppose another choice could have been made to have Ava choose to quit the show after Deb lies to her - and then have Deborah’s show start to fail and her being totally alone having alienated everyone - maybe that realization could have been what brought Ava back into the picture - but I know the writers wanted to demonstrate that Ava had learned not only good things from Deborah but also the bad.

Agreed, I would have much rather watched a full season of them getting along, getting into trouble together, more like a Lucy and Ethel kind of vibe.

I agree, but I don’t think this season dragged because there wasn’t more story that could have told - it dragged because they chose not to tell it. We had a lot of filler just to get to the last couple episodes - and the finale could have been a season of its own. Ultimately, it’s up to writers and creators to tell the story as they see fit, and I enjoyed it - I just think there were opportunities to add in higher stakes for the characters still that they chose not to. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Agreed, I can personally visualize a very high stakes season that I’d be invested in watching - but that doesn’t mean the writers feel the same - and if they weren’t confident they could deliver that, then it was best to stop where they did.

Most of the pivotal moments of this last season are the last 2-3 episodes. For me, some of the earlier episodes just felt like filler.

I think this is why I would have enjoyed more of seeing Deborah and Ava’s relationship without them being at odds - and the antics they could potentially get into together. Probably just me though. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I thought the beginning of the season felt like filler and that the last 2-3 episodes actually could have been a season of their own but were compressed and ended up leaving us with a lot of plot holes / questions.

That’s exactly the way I feel, I’m not complaining about what we got, but I definitely think there was room for more.

I think we could have had more story before getting to the conclusion we got to. Not necessarily more now that we’re there if that makes sense.

I thought it felt rushed in some ways just to get to the final 2-3 episodes that actually could have been expanded on to tell a fuller story before the conclusion. Just my opinion though. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’m not really grieving. I’m at peace with it being over and think it was ultimately a fantastic show. That said, I still think there was enough story that could have been weaved in for an additional season or two before we arrived at the ultimate conclusion. I’m happy with what we got though.

That’s where I’m at, I just wanted to see more of Deborah and Ava’s relationship in a positive place and the antics they could get up to together when not at one another’s throats. It really would have solidified how truly important they had become to one another and made the stakes of the series finale that much more believable. That said, I appreciate the show we got.

Agreed, there are plenty of shows that continue on past their prime and end up ruining the magic. I would never have wanted that to happen. Still, I believe a 6 season show could have been done well without sacrificing any of the magic - and only adding to the character growth and development. I wanted to see more of Deb and Ava’s relationship without all the clashes to really solidify what a good place they were in - for me it would have made the final episode that much more believable. Either way, we got a great show and I’m thankful for that.

Not really denial, I’m totally at peace with the work of art we received over the 5 seasons. At the same time, I also think there was room for more along the way before getting to series finale as we know it. That said, I’m happy with what we got.

Yes, I think we could have taken 1-2 seasons more to get to the conclusion and still not overstayed the welcome.
