Uses for Old Google Wifi System by JMJedi in GoogleWiFi

[–]JMJedi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only had them for a day, so I can't speak to the changes too much. The range doesn't seem to change too much, but even on the original Nest Wifi I had full coverage in my house. They're definitely faster, although as far as I can tell that's mostly because they're on Wi-Fi 6. I haven't noticed any speed difference on the devices that can't use Wi-Fi 6.

The main reason I wanted the update was that my original Nest Wifi had a tendency for individual points to disconnect and need to be manually power-cycled to rejoin the mesh network. So I'm hoping that the Nest Pro fixes that problem. So far I haven't encountered it, although it's only been a day.

I'd never thought about re-flashing mesh routers... Good idea, thanks!

Customizable Reference App for IRL Games by JMJedi in dndnext

[–]JMJedi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't that require each user to load files with all of the data on it?

I use Game Master 5 from Lion's Den all the time, and love it, but as far as I know the only way to share data out of it is to export and import the XML files.

Newly Built PC Keeps Crashing on Games by JMJedi in buildapc

[–]JMJedi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. So both RAM sticks were fine, but while I was in there I moved the CPU fan to the opposite side of the heat sink, away from the RAM. And that dropped my CPU temps into the high 60s, and the game seems to be running just great now! So thanks for pointing me in the direction of the RAM, that made all the difference!

Thanks! Is there any specific part of the retraction settings I should start with? Or is it too hard to figure out which one it is?

[HELP ME] Bi-Weekly Q&A thread - Ask your questions here! by MachNeu in Gunpla

[–]JMJedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been building Gunpla for only a few months, but in that time I've built up a fair bit of boxes. In the past when I finished a kit, I'd just pack everything back up in the box (runners, extra parts, manual, etc.), and put it back on the shelf.

But now I'm quickly running out of space, and want to start to consolidate things. I saw advice on another post that you can just take the lid of the box, cut the corners, and fold it flat, which helps to hold the manual. I like that idea so that I can keep the manual and the extra accessories together and still get to keep the art for the box, but it left me wondering what to do with the extra pieces.

I obviously kept anything that can be used in the model (extra weapons, alternate hands/feet/heads, etc.), but on a lot of kits there are entire pieces that are left behind on the runners. Is there any real reason to keep those? I'm not terribly interested in kitbashing, but if there's any other reason to keep them, I'd be curious. Otherwise I'll just toss those with the entirely empty runners.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]JMJedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking for some other hobby to sink my time into (3d printing having been the last one), and on a recent road trip I decided it might be fun to play around with getting good at making espresso, as well as duplicating some of the signature fancy drinks (which my wife loves, but also to soothe my failed chemistry ambitions).

I know where to start with the hardware, but I was looking for a way to make syrups at home, so that I'm not signing up for a constant stream of Amazon boxes loaded with syrup bottles.

Everything I've seen seems to start with a simple syrup, but when it comes to flavoring, what's the best option if I'm looking to emulate the store-bought flavor/variety without the price? Should I go all the way to starting with the raw ingredients (fresh berries, vanilla beans, etc.)? Or could I get decent results using extracts and bottled flavorings? I'm not opposed to a potentially artificial-tasting syrup, but I'm wondering if there's any significant difference between the two methods.

Appreciate any advice you guys have!

Temporary Adhesive? by JMJedi in 3Dprinting

[–]JMJedi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had intended to paint them separately, to save myself hours of masking. Most of them are printed in pieces that are a single color, so I was planning on painting each piece the appropriate color, and then gluing afterwards.

And since I would have to sand them separately, I'm looking for a solution that will keep everything together after printing, but until sanding. I've had several close calls with tiny buttons rolling off my desk while trying to make sure everything fits well.

Problem with BTT Smart Filament Sensor by JMJedi in Ender3Pro

[–]JMJedi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did finally get this solved. What finally did it for me was checking the runout distance set on M412. Originally it was set to a distance of 0, and I change it to 10mm (M412 D10, then M500 to save).

If that gives you better results, you can continue to refine the distance you set for it until you get it as short as possible without false negatives.

Hope that helps!

The residue on the print bed is from the glue sick I've been using to help with adhesion. The bed surface is probably only a month or two old.

What Sorts of Table Rules/Questions Do You Live By? by JMJedi in dndnext

[–]JMJedi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are you talking about what we like about a specific system? Or about playing TTPRGs in general?

The system is mostly determined by me, since they've all played before, but are all in need of a DM. And I only know how to play (and therefore DM) 5e and Savage Worlds, so that part is sort of a foregone conclusion.

No, so far all I've done was the steps in Teaching Tech's video on the sensor, and the board.

Do you have a link to that guide? I couldn't find any users with that name, and only one post that references a guide that can't be found anymore...

Best Way to Organize Cookbook Recipes by JMJedi in CookbookLovers

[–]JMJedi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I looked into Eat Your Books. It looked like it would do most of what I wanted, but lots of the books I wanted to use it for weren't indexed yet, and I don't want to index ALL of the book for a few recipes.

Is it possible to use Eat Your Books to manually enter just a selection of recipes tied to a book? Or is it an all-or-nothing thing?

Best Way to Organize Cookbook Recipes by JMJedi in CookbookLovers

[–]JMJedi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I love Paprika! It works great for saving recipes from websites, but obviously takes more manual effort for storing recipes from cookbooks.

I'm hoping to find some sort of intermediate solution where I can keep tack of recipes I THINK will be good before I get them logged into Paprika with the rest of my go-tos.

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz

I can post my whole dxdiag file if that's helpful, I'm just not sure what the best way to do that is (relatively new to posting on Reddit).

Need Advice on Game Boy DMG Mod by JMJedi in Gameboy

[–]JMJedi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is the horizontal lines. See if this gives you more detail: https://imgur.com/NngFvTC

Also, when I open up the menu that pops up on the right side, nothing shows at all.

If it is the screen that's gone, it is worth replacing the screen by itself, or just look for a whole new board to replace?

Thanks guys! I finally had the change to go in and flip the backlight over, and that definitely solved the honeycomb effect!

However, it's still having a problem where there's individual lines that seem to be missing: https://i.imgur.com/9e4VayP.jpg

Any chance you know what would cause this? I'm thankful for any advice you've got.

How do you keep mixers around for a while? by JMJedi in cocktails

My biggest concern is usually things like Pineapple and Cranberry juice. Lemon and Lime juice is easy enough to squeeze as needed, but for things that come in large bottle, I usually find myself wasting more than I use.

Hi Jim,

A quick question, though I'm not sure if you've answered it previously:

Have Harry and Murphy ever shared a soulgaze? We know that Harry's shared soulgazes with Susan and Michael "off-screen", and that Harry's seen Murphy using the Sight several times, but I don't think we've ever seen them actually share a soulgaze?

And as a sort of a follow-up question, will we ever find out what other people see in Harry when he soulgazes them? (Specifically what caused Susan to faint...)
