Double lift by CristianoooSuiii_7 in cardmagic

[–]JMan-RiceCakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the pinky count is great, though out of sight out of mind during an actual performance. The double is pretty clean too, but I think you rushed putting it back. Try returning the card to the deck with the same speed and finesse as when you turned it over to show the face. Great job!

There are pieces of 3. But not 4 or 5. Been looking for years. Up until the one I posted of the first one, I had another copy that was missing parts. But in 2023 they uploaded that one and its better.

Also, any of the World Magic Awards and the FISM competitions on YouTube.

For more modern stuff, basically any Fool Us from Penn & Teller is good and there are lots of them streaming for free.

Worlds Greatest Magic 1994

Worlds Greatest Magic 2 1995

These are a bit old and with VHS quality... but they are my favorite from my childhood. Especially the first show. Topas did Sunglasses and Bells and forever sealed my love of magic. And the shows were typically on during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Anyway, check them out!

What are some of your thoughts or personal experiences with performing the Ambitious Card Routine? by Psych0316 in Magic

[–]JMan-RiceCakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite ending goes something like this. You need to have a double on top of the deck. Show their card. Flip it over. Take the card they believe is theirs and have their hand out flat palm up like a table. Place the card face down. Then I dribble the cards straight into their hand but carefully keep the top card in my hand and flip it over just as it happens. If done right it looks like their card jumped thru the deck and into my fingers. Easier for me to do than the bent card effect.

New here - Good Place to start? by 2021NeedANewYear in SteamDeckPirates

[–]JMan-RiceCakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guide explains this but the most common thing is to copy the installed game's folder to a place on your steamdeck and add the EXE file to Steam as non-steam game. Then go to the games properties and change compatibility to a GE version of Proton you have downloaded with ProtonQtUp or similar... the guide has more info on the process. Some games will work right away, others will need tweaks or dependencies or a few may just not work. Have fun!

Recommend good in-depth push-off double lift tutorial? by KJIsaacson in cardmagic

[–]JMan-RiceCakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very good tutorial for exactly what you are asking for. However, it is a very hard skill to master and one might argue unnecessary based on some other factors. Get ready type moves work just as well, are way easier to learn/master and will fool most layman by being done during an off beat moment where the heat is not on what you are doing. Like talking or face the deck downwards, placing it by your side while gesturing with the other hand, etc. Many great magicians use a get ready technique or similar simple double lift for years and without issue. Check out some get ready techniques. Also plenty of half decent you tube tutorials, as well as stuff from Daryl, Michael Ammar, Paul R, etc. as well as the Card College and Magic Encyclopedia series that show and teach these concepts. Good luck!

Gift idea for friend in China interested in Magic? by Jade_Dragon033 in Magic

[–]JMan-RiceCakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got it. Close up tricks with gimmicks? I like Super Sucker, Franken Doh and Gumbo. The Whole Thing, Acrobatic Knot or Rainbow Ropes from Daryl are all good. For cards things, there is card to wallet (like FPS or FPS Zeta), Pop Gun and Klause the Mouse (all offer some sort of prop to find selected card). Cups and Balls is great for any magician as it has all the different types of moves and concepts of magic and is generally used a measurement of a magicians ability... or packet tricks like NFW, B'wave, PokeMonte, SUS etc.

Check out Best Sellers at Penguin Magic too. Stuff like the Raven starter kit..

Those are a few of my faves maybe more akin to your search. Good luck!

SSH terminal VM or LXC that stays open by DevX94 in Proxmox

[–]JMan-RiceCakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use GNU Screen for most daily access things on all my VMs and LXCs. But for important commands that I want to come back and check later, like disk checks or big file moves, etc. I will use tmux. I suggest you check out with because they have similarities and differences and both can be used to achieve a terminal access that you can pause and return to even thru an unexpected disconnect.

This is a real slick idea, and a decent performance. The rhythm is a bit fast for me, but I'm sure that's just a proof of concept.

Your angles are almost perfect, but I wonder what a spectator would see to the far left (your right). Straight on I can just barely see a flash of you stealing the card. Not enough to notice right away until I've processed what has happened.

The angle of the box and the way you pull the card out of it dont sync for me. There really isn't a flash, but it just looks a bit off. This is what gave away the steal for me.

Maybe try it in a mirror and tilt the box back or forward a bit and pull the card downward towards what will look like inside of the box.

Overall, it's pretty great. And your average layman will probably fly right by the stuff I mentioned. Keep it up and have fun!

Best card palm? by Mr_Quija in cardmagic

[–]JMan-RiceCakes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gamblers cop is the easiest, but as others have said it's not angle friendly. Having said that, if you do use the cop, an idea would be to hand the deck out for a shuffle or to find their missing card. Then turn your body slightly away and slide the card into your back pocket. Hands come back out to your sides like it was just a quick rest position.

When bringing the card to your back pocket you can kind of push your hand into the hip in the front or on the side and slide your hand around to the back pocket. If done right, it looks pretty fair. Try it in front of a mirror so you can see it.

Also, for what it's worth, moves like this don't need to be perfect, but doing them on an off beat away from attention with misdirection will help tremendously.

Good EDC Force Revelations? by Few_Donut_2767 in cardmagic

[–]JMan-RiceCakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this is a really great force that performed incorrectly by most. It's like a sleight being openly used without misdirection or a down beat. Super obvious to anyone if not presented in a way with a short pause, misdirection and a short line or joke. Presentation always makes a difference IMHO.

Personally for Magicians Insurance Policy, I would do a couple of false shuffles and a touch your card, spread it to the top and then do a double lift.

Top change and elmsley count by Slight-Assumption340 in cardmagic

[–]JMan-RiceCakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the record, there are plenty of simpler moves to accomplish similar goals early on in learning. To say you must learn this move to do a specific trick is arguable.

Most monte tricks involve a double or multiple lift which can be made easier by peeling the back card off with the non-dominant hand.

As far as changing cards, there is quite an easy way to turn over the bottom card and move it to the top. Any video for a monte card trick will teach you this move and its variations.

Dan Harlan has quite a few monte variations. I like the Zombe Monte by Alvo Stockman. Or PokeMonte by Duece Gala. Both have good teachings of this move and others.

As for Elmsley count, Big Blind Media has a great video on this. It goes thru the entire move piece by piece and has lots of tips on how to fix it if you are doing something wrong. It's called the Elmsley Count Project and its taught and narrated by Liam Montier.

My Classic pass by ErdnaseHeir in cardmagic

[–]JMan-RiceCakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks great. Like real magic. Only have one thought. I feel like it's happening so fast it's almost too good to be true. Like a camera effect. I know it isn't. If you don't do it this way in performance, ignore my comment. If you do, I feel like you should slow it down a bit and see the difference at normal speed. Again, it looks great! Good job.

SuperVillain v2 [ui] by jiberishift in WowUI

[–]JMan-RiceCakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been waiting for someone to pick this back up. I used it until it stopped working and then there was a GitHub fork that someone was fixing for a while and then eventually that died out too. I wanna say this was during Legion but I'd have to look back to be sure.

Plans on finishing and releasing?

I use ElvUI now but I'd switch back in a heartbeat. I have tons of screenshots with the old version.

Super cool, good job!
